Honda's new touring era (NT 1100)

They missed the BMW trick of calling one of them the 'Triple Black' and getting good sales out of it....

I really don’t think Honda give a shit about sales. There are so many things they could be doing but just don’t bother. Bikes that sell well are discontinued and they come up with some not exactly lemons but could do better. Touring bike sporty vfr1200 with a 18 litre tank when it should have been 25. Knock the deauville on the head just because it couldn’t meet emissions? Come on Honda if you can squeeze out a whole new engine over night. Whatever work the deauville needed it could have been done. JJH

New or knew?

Well it may have had a very lukewarm response here, but it seems that there’s a real positivity on other forums, websites, face ache etc. Looks like Honda may have another hit on their hands.

It looks a bit of a bargain at £12999 for DCT.
That includes luggage ,Apple Car play, heated grips, cruise etc etc.
Or pay double for a Ducati V4S Pikes Peak.
FFS !!!!
Ok,the NT only has 100bhp ish, but it’s a cracking motor and who can use 170bhp,apart from pathetic bragging rights in the pub/on the internet etc.
I’ll certainly take a look at one when they are released.

I totally agree with you. Will have a look myself too, but worried about the contorted riding position, due to my stupidly long legs & arms.
My 1290 in famous :D "Rain" mode, cuts power to 100bhp, and bike still performing well for it's size. Can't see why NT would be any worse.

Need to see it in the flesh, some bikes are just not photogenic, and I’d need to see if the performance is adequate, I’m not a speed merchant but it needs to be quick enough 2 up

It is a lot of bike for the money it must be said, and I’m a DCT fan

A bit of "blacking" of that shiny header guard and hopefully it won't be too long before SC Project have a couple of nice cans available.......a dark screen....and the job is Oxo

My ATAS was just fine two up and the NT has the same motor.

But how much power is enough ?

It’s not that long ago 100hp was a powerful bike.

My 94hp AT DCT solo, with luggage will leave a mate on his 125hp Caponord struggling to keep up...up to 80+.
Two up fully loaded I noticed no difference between it and my previous 2013 GSA (probably a bit perkier to be honest)
(Barring the £5k price to swap, the NT may just be my perfect all round bike)

100 bhp is plenty. I’ve owned many bikes with more but seldom if ever had the throttle at 100%. I don’t think it’s all about the big numbers. It’s the package. Not every bike manages to just have the right mix. Old z650 did as did the 350lc. 1st fazer thou did in a way that later 1000 didn’t. Could go on and on and on. I Usually do. JJH

I think right now there are allot more positive comments about the NT (despite its bland appearance) v the PP Multi and is generally attracting the interest of actual riders, rather than posing & vain beyond the limit drama queens.
Riders who won’t care about the depreciation of the NT, as much at those who spend £30k on a motorcycle :blast

Yes PP Multi looks good when parked up next to the NT, some might even go as far as calling it “sexy” (wouldn’t be surprised if some actually would sleep with it), but for me, that is where my interest in owning one does stop abruptly.

But how much power is enough ?

It’s not that long ago 100hp was a powerful bike.

I had a couple of Varaderos, they made a little less power and torque than this NT, 95hp I think, they were brilliant 2 up tourers and I never needed more than they had

But my last two mile munchers have been a Crosstourer DCT and my current 1200 GS LC, you get used to having a certain amount on tap,

At the end of the day though I do think Arsey is right that seat of the pants sensation is far more important than top trumps figures

I also have a Z900rs which is “only” 110 hp but it’s light and torquey and actually goes like stink
