What is the loudest horn I can physically fit on my 1200 GS (08)? Ideally one that I can fit myself (simple to fit, using existing electrics, where the factory one is). Cheers

horn?

thanks - does the stebel magum twin pack (139db) fit or is it the single one only (mere 136db)? cheers

You can "split" the nautilus and can mount the horn bit remotely from the compressor but it drags 22 amps iirc so a relay is needed which is a faff
even if you fit a magnum you need to get a plug to connect the existing wiring to lucar (spade) connectors unless you butcher the wiring loom
Nippy Normans sell a kit to do this but it's £15 quid!

I am currently researching this very subject so will report back with any solutions btw don't believe the claims about 136 or 139 db either

having said that a magnum is still a lot louder than the oem horn

hth

Two Fiamm type car horns are the biz. Fitted on 1150 (relay already in the bike so no probs) and on 1200 (need relay). My experience with Stebel was so-so, broke after a few months in hot weather. Two accessory horns resonate and give a good parp!

magnum

Thanks. I went for the Stebel Magnum with the NN kit to start with. Tales of taking the tank off to get something louder in scared me...
Any tips on fixing it welcome. Cheers

Hugo, good and most important an easy choice, the Magnum and the NN plug are nice, the tone is deep and loud.

Remove the standard horn, undo the elctrical plug, put the beemer horn in your cupboard for future use, fit the Magnum and the NN plug instead of original on the original place, job done.

Bear in mind that the volume doubles every 3db.

So a 139db horn will be twice as loud as a 136db horn.

So if you are after an effect, find a way of fitting the 139db horn !!!

doesn't fit...

I just tried to fix the Magnum but it does not fit in the original space. Not enough room between the bracket arm and the spring. Even bending the arm to max it does not do it. This is on an '08 with ESA. Any clues anyone? Or is there a different place to fix it that is still 'away'? Thanks.
NN sell this as an easy and direct replacement for the OEM horn, even for '08 model -

I have an 09 bike so it might be different to an 08 but there is heaps of room on mine under the right hand tank panel where the emission capsule thingy fits on a US spec bike have you checked :nenau

I have just fitted my Stebel Magnum on my 09 Special Edition which does have ESA
My solution was to use a small right angled bracket fastened with one hole drilled in the support for the USA carbon canister behind offside tank cover.
Hope its easier to see from the pictures below :thumb2

I also used NN canbus wiring kit as I did not want to cut the wiring loom and I even left the original horn in place :)

excellent pics...

Many thanks for the pictures; excellent.
Re the wiring, I also bought the cambus kit but I'll show my ignorance. How did you wire it? Did you not cut off the original 'socket' and connected the two yellow wires in the kit? (and I've read the cambus thread...)

Hi Hugo
No do not cut off any plugs
All you need to do is solder the two spade connectors onto the ends of the yellow wires of NN canbus wiring kit (do not shorten the yellow wires)
Unplug the plug from the original horn....plug that to NN plug and connect the spade conectors to the Magnum
If you look a photo three you can see the green plug connection on the left and I have ran the wires down the air in-take to the horn
The yellow NN wires are in some black sheathing for protection along the air in-take
Hope that helps....Gaz :thumb
