Horror Story Picking up 1200GS

sounds like you dont ride your bike in bad weather then:nenau

try riding it all year round,

ABS is better at braking than you will ever be.

+1. ABS is the way forward. The first thing I do when I get a new bike is find a quiet bit of road and play around with the brakes. ABS is far better than you and I will ever be.

Aye if you are God

No, as long as you know how to ride a motorcycle properly and aren't a ham fisted, 'there are only two positions for a lever' type of idiot :blast

Marcus is spot on.......if you apply the brake progressively and smoothly, you will stop quicker and without the abs kicking in than if you just squeeze the lever as hard as you can and let the abs deal with it......it's not rocket science, nor do you have to be anything like a riding god to do it :nenau

So what you're saying is that when the front wheel locks you can detect this and back of the pressure, avoiding the sustained wheel lock that would 99% of the time put you on your arse.

I used to be part of the ABS on bikes is bullshit brigade. After owning my first ABS equiped bike, I think someone going full lever on an ABS will stop quicker than a progressive lever on a non ABS. Somebody should organise a test.

It's probably because I've never had ABS that I don't rely on it. In 6mth it only engaged once on ice last winter. To me that meant I'd ****ed up.

Interesting article in this months Journal about a Motorrad test on ABS brakes. The F***blade doesn't get a good write up  Those in the P & S club can read the article on line AFAIK.

Those who aren't members, buy a copy or join the c**b ;)

Agreed, ride the bike as if you did not have ABS then it'll do its job just fine.
