Okay I know this may have been covered in here somewhere, but I don't have the time to trawl through it all. I have some spare beer tokens burning a hole in my pocket. I'm away through Spain this month, a trip I've done a few times and know I'm going to get fried, I have a few jackets the coolest being my old Heine Gericke with the liner stipped out and all the vents wide open. Simple question, whats the coolest jacket out there at the moment ?.

I have a Dainese Air flow jacket which armoured like a full on motorcycle jacket but with large multi layered mesh inserts.

I have to be honest I don't really wear it. What size are you?

Have a look at the RST Adventure - loads of vents/panels, good armour - dump the liners (and arms if you want :nenau) - not bad value either at about £200.

I've got a Halvarssons, complete with a weird liner made of outlast.

It's the best thing since riding in flip flops.

I'm in Spain at the moment with 2 mates, we are using A combination of HG airstream jackets and trousers, an HG summer jacket, and BMW airflow jacket and trousers. All I can say is after 12:00 none of them keep you cool as it has been around 40c every afternoon. Best tactic is to do all the riding in the morning and spend the afternoon in/by the pool with a cold beer, if you have to ride then soaking your base layer with cold water every 40 minutes works pretty well. A wet buff around the neck also helps.

Best alternative

I rode to Crete a few years ago. I had on a Knox body armour top which is a simple netting type t-shirt with body armour all over front back, arms shoulders etc. I had this directly onto my skin and wore a cheap T-shirt over it. Worked brilliantly. Had on a pair of wolf leather pants for bottoms and dumped my normal jacket on my back box whilst i was doing europe. When I came back through the tunnel at calais, i changed jkts around. Best thing ive worn. Really cool and not sweaty.

Ive just returned from Croatia and had the same thoughts about cooling and venting.
I opted for the twat jacket and can say i am very pleased with it. As you say liner out and vents open.
However I think the under garment/base layer you wear with it helps tremendously.
So research and advice led me to under armour heat gear. Ideally you should buy a compression fit style and this hugs the skin and wicks the moisture directly off your skin, loose fitting wicking T's don't work as well.

Ultimately hot is hot and unless you are moving, sweat is inevitable.:(

Good luck

This might be of help when it gets really hot:

When it's very hot I understand you don't want maximum airflow, as they your sweat doesn't do the job its meant to.

Ah cooling by evaporation, that takes me back a few years, about 40 to be precise in my physics lessons. I used this to good effect last September, a 10hour trip through Spain, around Madrid it was over 40 degrees, every time I stopped at a service station I bought two bottles of chilled water out of the fridge one went down my throat, the second I tipped down my trousers, which kept me cool for a few miles. It was quite funny seeing the forcourt attendants face when I tipped the second bottle straight down my trousers standing there like I just pissed em with a contented smile on my face

Chest size is 46, which normally equates to XL

I use a cooling bandana round my neck, very similar to this.....

Coupled with my Belstaff Adventure Jacket and Pants, I wasn't unduly uncomfortable riding 1500 miles across Kansas, in two days in temperatures of 104 deg F / 40 deg C and high humidity last year.

I see there's a Belstaff Adventure Jacket on ebay at the moment....

They are, however, still available new from British Motorcycle Gear in San Diego. They will ship to the UK and Paul Brooks, the owner, has a reputation for great customer service.

BMG also sell the Zodiac Jacket which is specially designed for wear in a hot climate which is why mine is still hanging in a friend's garage in San Jose....

Thanks for all the advice fella's, I called into HG in Preston today, there in administration and supposedly having a closeing down sale which is 20% of most things. And so I've gone for the HG Airflow Jacket, I'm off to Spain for a month on Sunday, I'll let you know if it worked when I get back

Wish I could get hold of one of them Bandanas, they look usefull

I used one of these in the Dolomites - I also took a HG Cruise for the wet/cold parts of the trip. The Black Mesh jacket worked well.
