I’m being lazy here. I’ve just booked the ferry out to Santander arriving 30th April. Based on loads of recommendations on here we were targeting the Hotel Del Oso for a few nights before whizzing off south - nothing booked: we will wing it after this . Hotel Del Oso have just emailed to say fully booked.

We are after somewhere in the Picos-ish area for say 3 nights to get acclimatised as it were. So, other than the del Oso where else is recommended. Mountains not coast. Rural or edge of town and deffo not in Potes, been there, not my thing.

We’ve camped in the Picos before - Cubernigea, and Someido and ??? Plus coastal, but not hotelled it. I know I can peruse booking.com and the rest but I’m after recommendations. Bike security or under cover is not a big issue for me - a roadlok is good enough, but I’ll take a garage if it’s there. Spacious room, nice comfy lounge, bar and a view are the winners imho.

What do you recommend then…

Return plan is a few nights in Llanes 3 weeks later. This time we are after an apartment or villa for 4 nights. Again anything? In the town centre this time.

Mucho Gracias (see the acclimatisation has already started).

Moved and title edited mildly.

How about the Parador at Cangas de Onis?

Try the Hotel Infantado in Potes.
Not as good as the Del Oso but it’s fine

Stayed here for a couple of nights near Poo, between Panes and Cangas de Onis.
https://hoteltorrecerredo.com/ - run by a Scot called Jim and local Pilar, daughter of the original owners
I went half board but you can walk into Las Arenas for other options. Up a short lane so secluded.

Cangas de Onis is nice. I used https://www.hotelsantacruz.net/ - no car park but parked outside the door on the wide pavement. Good breakfast and not expensive.

If you do not find an apartment in Llanes, then Hotel Montemar is good. It's a lovely town.

Thanks looks really nice but no availability on my dates - which I’ve just realised are over a holiday weekend in Spain. It’s Labour Day on the Friday 1st May. Elementary error🤦

Also fully booked according to booking.com

have you tried the hotel's own system? Many are avoiding the big booking sites, especially in busy periods to avoid commissions.

I have been booking in the Pyrenees and I have found a number of places are only available direct and have other offers such as breakfast or half board available.

Also, google Maps is better to show availability as it checks various sites, often including going direct.

if you like the idea of a Parador, join their Amigo programme for a discount.

sometimes they also have special rates for veterans and over 50s that might be cheaper than the Amigo rate.

Parador at Fuente De, keep driving past the Del,Oso it’s at the end of the road.

Oh and try calling the Hotel del Oso, booking.com isn’t always right about availability.
