I'm fairly sure I've got dirt in the ignition barrel and its causing problems.

Usually, sewing machine oil is recommended, but there appears to be quite a lot of cack in the barrel.

So what's the best way of cleaning it? A good squirt of brake cleaner? A little sewing machine oil?

same thing happened to me barrel becoming increasingly difficult to turn, coincided with some warrenty work at vines mentioned it to them and when i got bike back was as new, perhaps give them a call and ask what they use

I wouldn't recomend wd40 or 3 in 1, both leave a residue,

GT40 is the stuff recomended by locksmiths for barrel/leaf type locks, they also do a dry graphite dust that is brilliant but it does leave your key dirty if over used.
