The definitive review

Looks stunning after the launch of the R1300GSA Dualit toaster….

I had the F900 GSA as a loaner for a couple of days this week & really liked it. Had to be gentle with it as it only had 38 miles on it & the weather wasn’t great but I did about 100 miles. Found the seating position & bit sportier than my GS & it was definitely taller. If I had one I’d have to put a tall screen on it as the factory one didn’t do much. The only thing against it for me is the chain drive. I do 20000 miles a year in all weather so I imagine I’d get through a few chain & sprockets. Otherwise it’s great & certainly way better looking than the 1300. Not that that is difficult!

I had a 900 gs as a loaner. It was horrid. Very uncomfortable seat, very noisy from the screen. Engine was ok and Akra sounded ok. Massive dive from the forks on braking. Altogether, not for me. I'd ride it if I didn't have another bike, but only as far as a dealer to find a trade in price.

Not keen on the front look tbh. Looks a bit Transalp / Honda-ey.

So same weight as KTM adventure but 50bhp less.

Still a bag of cement too heavy.

Sub 200kg would’ve been nicer.

But it would still look like a Transalp in your eyes and you still wouldn’t be happy ….

Based on my F650 & 700, both twins but less power than the new 900, I would expect 12/14,000 miles on a Did X ring and sprockets. So on average £300 ish per year, plus maybe £25 on chain wax. Still a big saving on 1300 👍

Well I can’t see it while I’m on it.

I had a look at one of these just before they were available, saw it at the Bike show, and was pretty keen on it. Test rode a 900XR which is slightly more powerful but same weight, engine style, chain drive etc and hated it. I priced up the GS version and it was just over £15k 😳
I ended up buying a fully loaded brand new GSA for £3k more.
Still have an itch for a lighter less powerful ‘adventure’ bike so I’ve ordered the new Kove 800X Pro which I’m aware I will be Beta testing.

Going to look at the 900R for the Mrs. There's a "factory low" option taking the seat height to around 785mm
Alternatively it'll be a 750 Hornet with a lowering link 👍

I went to the dealers with every intention of buying an F900GSA. On sitting on it I found it very top heavy. To the extent that even rocking it up off the side stand was hard work. I asked the salesman if they had any others than the one I sat on. Nope just that one, on asking why only one he told me they don’t sell many. I then sat on an R1250GSA this was much easier to rock up off the side stand even though the bike is heavier. Needless to say I bought the R1250GSA and so far I like it.
The 1250 motor is certainly much more powerful than my old R1200GS that I had three bikes back.
