and this as well...
How does one go about finding an address on the Quest 1 when it doesn't have a number e.g. The Old Vicarage or Fairview or the like?

I have this problem nearly every bloody day...the addies I get on the XDA for my jobs often don't have the number on.

I usually look it up on Google ...most of the places I go to are nursing homes so they usually have a reference somewhere...I just type in the name and the word 'map' after it and 50% of the time I hit lucky.......I can then transfer the location from the web map to Mapsource.

A bit of lateral thinking often works as well......'Parkview Nursing home'.....I look along the road on Mapsource and make my WP on the bit of road nearest a patch of green.......a vicarage, make your WP next to a church etc ........

Otherwise, just enter '1' as the house number and start at the end of the street then drive along it.......unless you have a contact number for the address, it's about all you can do.

I visit 4 or 5 sites a day, and at least 1 a day doesn't have a proper addy......It's spooky though..when I was employed, I couldn't find several...now I'm self employed, I find every single one of them without much aggro ;) :D

put the post code in to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ then at the bottom of the screen click the button to convert it to the landranger OS grid ref.
Once you have the LR grid ref key that into the quest and job done you have the WP.

also..

... might be worth reminding peeps that street numbering in the UK starts from the town centre and radiates outwards.
IOW if its no. 1 it'll be at the town / city end of the street and if it's 400 it'll be a way out.

Or use www.multimap.co.uk - gives you Grid Ref, X & Y co-ords & lat and Long.

I tend to find putting No5 rather than No1 gets better results when putting in an address to get a road, for some reason.

I've failed the IQ Test!
Having found the Grid Reference how do I key it into the Quest1.

I need to borrow a five year old to show me.

If you have any clues about the particular location ie opposite the park or next door to coalyard these can often be located on Googlearth and the lat/long cut and pasted into a Mapsource wapoint property box

1) Turn Quest on. Indoors or outdoors, doesn't matter :D

2) Press menu button twice, setting page should appear

3) Select "Units Setup", Units Setup page should appear

4) Move down to "Location Format"

* Note what it's set to. I've just changed my to British National Grid, to test this and I didn't and can't remember what it was set to :D [edit]just remembered :D[/edit]

5) Select and use the rocker pad to move down to "British national Grid" and press enter

* All your waypoints will now be show in British National Grid format.

6) Press page key twice to come out to normal map view

7) Press and hold "Ok" . You will get the option of "Tracback" or "Save"

8) Select "Save"

9) Scroll up to the top and give the waypoint a name

10) Scroll down to "Location" and enter the grid reference

11) Scroll down to "OK" and select

12) You should now have the waypoint saved. Select it normally using "find" and instead of "route to" press the menu button and select "show map" to check it's where it should be.

13) If it is, :thumb. If it isn't..............check it's definitely British National Grid co-ords etc

* You may want to change your "Location Format" back to Lat/long or whatever it was before. The waypoint will still be there, only in lat/long now.

Wish it were that simple.

Sorry to pull you up, (on my first posting) but after many years finding addresses on the IOW, You will find that Yes most roads are numbered so, but many roads, Ryde High St. for one, are numbered consecutively up the lefthand side, from the town centre and back down the other side. Therefore No 1 would be opposite No 250 odd, can't remember how many addresses there are off the top of my head! :nenau
Another problem we have is that many roads have no numbers at all, every house named individually!!! :nenau
Finally let me say what a great site this is :clap :beerjug:
Bob

i never do any of that :nenau

i just use microsoft autorout and find it by postcode in there, mark it as a waypoint

(heres the tecnical bit)

i then zoom out, then open mapsource, find the same location approx, then zoom in untill all the roads match, then mark with a waypoint the same place that autorout has waypointed, job done.

but i am a Gps numpty :D
