How do I lower the gear lever?

The problem is the side stand is in the way. I've been trying to find the perfect gear lever position and I've been struggling.

So far I have tried the Wunderlich adjustable lever (looks beautiful) BUT with either it, or the original lever to get it low enough so that I don't have to lift my foot to lower the lever it gets tangled with the side stand.

I've also invested in some Touratech foot rests that are set back a bit. This gives me more options in adjustment, as I can potentially use a shorter lever.

I've not tried every possibility, but each time I think I've got it, I go for a ride and find that its still too high.

Does anyone know of a lever that perhaps curves away from the bike a bit (or can anyone make one?) It'd only have to be 10 mm or so to give the springs on the swing arm a little extra room.

Anyhow I'm just posting for ideas, in case anyone out there has already been through this already.

In the end I can live with the lever being a bit high, but if I'm riding hard I find lifting my foot upsets the balance.



Ideas would be appreciated. BTW does the adjustable touratech lever move it away from the side stand at all?

I had the same prob, so I'm guessing you have long legs also.
Just put the gear lever in a vice an whack it wi a big hammer untill it bends out enough to miss the side stand

I'm not sure where you could be having a problem
I lowered my gear lever considerably for my off-road boots & it's not interfering with the sidestand (or vise versa) in any way.
If I get a chance this evening I'll have a look at the bike & let you know if I can see anything relevant

TBH I'd never thought of that, its almost too simple. Being mechanically inept, I may suggest this to my friendly mechanic.

Jockster, You'll only see the problem if you really lower the lever. I've moved mine around one spline, and then adjusted the bar behind the plastic cover (here I show my lack of mechanical terminology). Its probably the equivalent of two splines down. Any lower and it gets tangled in the two springs on the swing arm. When returning the swing arm its almost as though they want to go one on each side of the lever.

OK so I'm not a mechanic. Hopefully you get the idea. Maybe I should find a camera?

Anyhow I'll speak to my mechanic re the hammer, but any other ideas are equally appreciated.

BTW is the lever cast, or (whats the other one:solid?)? I bent a hand brake lever once (fell off) and it was cast and quickly cracked.

use a propane torch and heat it, then wack it GENTLY until it bends enough. You don't need much.
