how do i read compacted mail?

I have serached MS help and this forum, but can't find the answer to this:

I have at some stage clicked "yes" and the machine has compacted old mail messgaes. In there is an address I need for tomorrow in Dundee (I'm in Manchester!)

Hiow the heck do i un-compact the mail and read it?? This is peeing me off royally

Hi,
Do you mean Archived, not compacted? Compacted should not affect anything, just search your Inbox.
If so, go to File, Archive, and check the default filename and location.
Open it and search.
