I have a windows 7 computer. Can I upload my BMW Motorrad (2014) Repair and Service Data CD onto my computer? I have tried the copy function and my computer uploaded everything however when I tried to access the data it could not open it. FYI the CD works fine on both my desk top computer and my lap top computer. I just want to upload to see if it is faster and also for back up.
Thanks for your help.

Put the disc in your CD/DVD drive.

Close any attempts it makes to autoplay.

Go to 'START'>My computer.

Right click on the CD (or dvd)

Select "COPY" then paste to a folder on a Hard drive.

It's a long time since I've tried it like that, I use disc images and compressed file systems to copy my stuff, but I think that's the way off the top of my head :)

EDIT.......how are the files saved/organised on the disc?

If, for example, there are dozens of PDF files, you could simply copy all of them into a folder.

I've got the same disc on one of my hard drives that I used to take to Morocco with me (plus a workshop manual for all of the bikes we ever took over) so we had all the tech info we needed, but I think I used Daemon tools to make virtual disc copies.....If what I suggested above doesn't work, post back here and I'll write up a procedure for you to follow using Daemon Tools Lite (which is free)

You could open the CD on your computer and simply (multiple) copy all the files to a new location.

I think it may be easier just to view the files on the disc using an ISO viewer.

HI Fanum
The process that you have outlined is the one that I went through. It uploaded a lot of files but I could only get into the standard forms, icons etc. The actual 'working diagrams/procedures' I could not access. I am thinking that your suggestion regarding the Daemon tools approach will be the best solution. The reason I want to upload is that I believe that if I can do this; accessing and searching through the manual will be quicker that doing this straight from the disc (is this a correct assumption?). I will also want to make copy discs too as a backup/safety precaution for a lost or broken disc. I am in the final stages of planning my solo ride across the Americas hence my need for this tool and my desire to have this and all other essential info on a lap top/netbook/ tablet (whatever I decide to take) and at the same time have back up at home should my computer break or get nicked. Thanks for your help and advice.

Hi Al
Since my reply to you I have downloaded Daemon three times but each time I cannot get the programme to upload the disc. Sorry to be a pain but do you have any suggestions please chap.
Thanks
Gordon

I'll have a look in the morning (on company time ;) )

Alternatively - I can stick a copy of an older version in dropbox for you.
