How Do You Buy a Bike?

Been down to Pidcocks Long Eaton, sat on a F800GS liked it, but they won't sell it me. I even asked if I slapped £7k in notes down could I have it?

No was the reply, saying something about not being allowed to sell demo bikes until they have a replacement for it and that they've no F800GS's.

So what is the point in having a demo bike to win potential buyers if you've nothing to then sell them, why not sell the demo bike too?

Having said that they then checked the stock list and realised they have an F800GS in stock, in the middle of the show room on a big display stand! But its tarted to hell and on for £9500 (yes a F800GS) and again he didn't particularly seem that interested in selling to me.

WTF do you have to do in a BMW dealership to buy a bike?

I even suggested checking the stock of F650GS's instead, not really much, they said they had three on order, but suggested I was probably too late to add any factory extras and would be better to come next year and try again.

Went into Pidcock Kwak/Zuki in Derby, they offered me a coffee and discount straight away. They discussed insurance (I have only held a licence for 9 months) and said they would cover me for the day if I wanted to test ride bikes. They (Jap bike Pidcocks) were much sharper for a sale and I bet they would have sold me any bike in the shop if I had offered cash for it!

I am sure someone will be along to correct me or provide more info but I seem to recall dealers (cars & bikes) are restricted (god knows how or why) on when they can sell on demos. They have to keep them for a minimum period. Perhaps that's is what you experinced

go to a different dealer. Try Wollastons in Northampton, they will probably deliver for free if you bought a bike with no part ex.

I bought my current gs from pidcocks long eaton in 05, they couldnt have been more helpful. I dealt with curtis, if he's still there i'd have a word with him.

Why would they sell a demo bike to you that could be used as a sales tool to sell another bike or two whilst you wait for your new bike to arrive from the factory Makes perfect sense to me.

Same goes for the display bike with all of the farckles - it is a advert for the farkles and the bikes in general, i.e. to get other people interested in buying an F800GS.

Yes, I hear what you're saying, but like me you like the bike, go in to buy it can't, so go elsewhere and buy something else. They did say they couldn't sell it until they had another 800GS in, which they now do, yet they still won't sell it. Just seems odd to me, surely anyone in sales would always want a sale - bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I am stood here saying I want to spend £6-8k on one of your bikes and can't buy one. I am not being funny but we're on the edge of a depression and/or recession. KTM, Honda, Kwak Zuki, dealers around here have all volunteered me considerable discounts without me even asking. So I am not going to start chasing a salesman to let him make money out of me.

Other dealers noted, googled locations and seems like I will end up having a very busy/expensive weekend ;-)

I guess the dealers look at probabilities. Don't have a demo bike = 10 potential lost sales.

Tell someone they can't buy their only demo bike = 1 lost sale.

Depends on how many potential buyers they see coming in in the next few weeks / months I guess.

It all depends on supply and deamnd - obviously the dealer you went to knows it was beneficial to keep hold of their demo bike.......others don't............all I am saying is that in these challenging economical times there is a reason behind thier actions, don't hold it against them or other BMW dealers.

Best thing to do is buy your bike elsewhere. Then keep going into your local dealer on your ne bike which you bought at another dealer. Drink their coffee, eat their biscuits. Smile and walk out waving a two finger salute.
I got great satisfaction from this.

Woolastons or Bahnstormers. I've heard this too much recently about Pidcocks BMW. In the current climate they'll struggle with that kind of attitude.

Legally there is no restriction on how soon you sell a demo. However most of the manufacturers won't pay you the de fleet bonus on a vehicles until 90 days have passed from the date of registrations,
