I use a plastic coated cable type cycle lock with combination barrel - no seperate lock or keys to lose.Hi was wondering how you guys lock your helmet to your bike/tank bag.
i was thinking of just getting some plastic coated wire with a lock.
wondering what everyone else does.
Cheers matt
Matt,
I try to keep things simple, as if they are simple you'll probably use them.
I bought myself a very simple Abus retractable cable lock:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...gclid=CJvctdC-6swCFeEp0wodWfAG7g&gclsrc=aw.ds
Why?
1. It has a 90cm cable, long enough to lock two helmets to a bike easily. If it's easy to use, you'll use it. If it isn't, you won't. Trust me.
2. It has a combination lock, so there is no extra key to fiddle about with and / or lose.
3. The cable is long enough to feed down the arm of a jacket and / or trousers, so you can tie these to your bike as well.
4. It takes up no space.
PS Someone is bound to pipe-up that any scrote could cut the cable with some pliers. Yes, maybe so. This bod will very probably suck his teeth but then walk off, quite happily leaving his £400 Arai, dangling on his wing mirror or sitting on the seat, whilst he kicks back with likeminded souls in the cafe.
Wapping has mentioned this before and whilst I have used a smaller version of this type of cable lock, never had a problem - locking up two helmets, I might invest in a larger version to be able to attach to a ground anchor. £18 good investment.
Got a bent bit of metal under the seat on the gs for just this.

This is the exact reason I went for the 58ltr Givi top box. All your bits and bobs, plus a helmet.

Twat.
Now you've created a new need in me.
I knew I fecking hated you.
I have a simple solution that I sometimes use.
If I'm leaving the bike somewhere relatively secure I will sit the helmet on its side on the rear seat and feed the chin strap through the gap between the top box lid and front edge -between the two hinges. Then lock the top box and you are good to go. On the GSA topbox this does not appear to damage the rubber seal.
Hi
Just had my HJC helmet stolen on Sunday from outside my gym in Leicester. It was chained to the top of Vern's panniers. Funny as when I went for my shower and looked across at my bike I thought my helmet had moved.(it was still there) then by the time I finished it had gone!! So they obviously nipped home to get the tools they needed. Only brought the helmet two weeks ago!!
