how do you lock your helmet to your bike

I have a retractable cable lock which I think I'll use along with some plastic coated cable.

I was in the shed earlier and saw the lads push bike with it on. Iv swiped it.

I'll put it through the chin bar or helmet arm of jacket and through the handle of the tank bag.
It just pisses me off you work hard spend your hard earned cash on the gear and some twat will
Just lift in.

Keeping it simple is the way I do like the coded locks not having to have a key.

But again this site provides good advice.
And laughter with the first few post.

Also the massive top boxes are just not my thing. Although I do have the full alu pannier kit.

I was thinking about attacking a cable under the seat so you can just wrap it up.

My mate has a Honda with this type of lock on but it's looks a pain In The arse to use and if some dick decides to park next to you and doesn't see it it get knocked about or a car door slammed into it.

Hi was wondering how you guys lock your helmet to your bike/tank bag.
i was thinking of just getting some plastic coated wire with a lock.

wondering what everyone else does.

Cheers matt
I use a plastic coated cable type cycle lock with combination barrel - no seperate lock or keys to lose.

It's a couple of mtr long but quite compact it's also handy for locking a couple of front wheels together if required.

Matt,

I try to keep things simple, as if they are simple you'll probably use them.

I bought myself a very simple Abus retractable cable lock:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/...gclid=CJvctdC-6swCFeEp0wodWfAG7g&gclsrc=aw.ds

Why?

1. It has a 90cm cable, long enough to lock two helmets to a bike easily. If it's easy to use, you'll use it. If it isn't, you won't. Trust me.

2. It has a combination lock, so there is no extra key to fiddle about with and / or lose.

3. The cable is long enough to feed down the arm of a jacket and / or trousers, so you can tie these to your bike as well.

4. It takes up no space.

PS Someone is bound to pipe-up that any scrote could cut the cable with some pliers. Yes, maybe so. This bod will very probably suck his teeth but then walk off, quite happily leaving his £400 Arai, dangling on his wing mirror or sitting on the seat, whilst he kicks back with likeminded souls in the cafe.

Wapping has mentioned this before and whilst I have used a smaller version of this type of cable lock, never had a problem - locking up two helmets, I might invest in a larger version to be able to attach to a ground anchor. £18 good investment.

I have a group anchor in the garage.
The cable seems to be the best thing as its light compact and you can string another cable to it incase needed.
I have a 1 1/2 meter heavy chain it's to heavy tbh.

Like other people have posted if they want it they will have it. It's mainly for my own peace of mind and serves as a deterrent

Got a bent bit of metal under the seat on the gs for just this.

Yeah, and then some scrote comes along and gives your helmet a tug and you don't have it anymore - don't ask me how i know.

Bar-Ender lock (from Riders Warehouse) attached to the bracket the extra lights are mounted on.

This is the exact reason I went for the 58ltr Givi top box. All your bits and bobs, plus a helmet.

Twat.
Now you've created a new need in me.
I knew I fecking hated you.

Buy one, test it out, let me have a looksie at it, and if I like it I'll buy one as well. Do it Bill, do it now!!

Im guessing you'll need to buy a compatible Givi/GSA monokey fitting kit as well?

I reckon you're right. I will be speaking with my local Givi dealer at the soonest. I'd like to see one before I shell out.

U lock (or chain and padlock if locking up two helmets) through the helmet opening and through the front wheel/forks.
Two birds with stone, bike secure and helmets using the one lock.

Just have it high enough so dogs can't piss in your lid.

I have a simple solution that I sometimes use.

If I'm leaving the bike somewhere relatively secure I will sit the helmet on its side on the rear seat and feed the chin strap through the gap between the top box lid and front edge -between the two hinges. Then lock the top box and you are good to go. On the GSA topbox this does not appear to damage the rubber seal.

Hi

Just had my HJC helmet stolen on Sunday from outside my gym in Leicester. It was chained to the top of Vern's panniers. Funny as when I went for my shower and looked across at my bike I thought my helmet had moved.(it was still there) then by the time I finished it had gone!! So they obviously nipped home to get the tools they needed. Only brought the helmet two weeks ago!!

Good idea never thought of that.
Thanks

Small bicycle lock/chain through the chin bar if it won't go into the top box or panniers
