How do you remove the ignition wiring from the lock?

I'm suffering intermittent total electrical failure on my 02 1150, subject to the handlebar position. A quick search suggests that the likely culprit is the wiring from the lock barrel to the main loom, and wiggling it around does produce the same symptoms. So I'd like to remove it to see if I can repair it, or need to replace it.

However, I can't see how to remove the wiring from the bottom of the lock barrel. Don't want to be too hasty in case I damage it!

Can anyone give me any tips?

Had the same problem with mine. I just snipped the wire off and re-soldered it with a small soldering iron, any competent electrician could do it for you.

On my 1100GS I had the same problem. Eventually I found out that there is on the right hand side a small hole that is covered with a wax type of substance.

Removing this reveals a tiny screw, which can be undone using a jewellers type of screwdriver. After this the white plastic thing that the wiring loom goes into just falls out.

I replaced my ignition loom and cable tied it to the left hand fork tube to stop it twisting as the steering was turned, which results in the cables breaking up.

Looking straight down on top of the ignition switch, you'll find the hole, at approximately the 3pm position.

Mick.

Excellent Mick, thanks a lot. I'll give it a go this evening.

Excellent instruction - now tell me please: what wires do I cross to start the engine? :D
