Just bought a GSA topbox and the securing lock for the frame is locked and I dont have a key. Any ideas? I do have spare locks to recode so not bothered about reusing the one that is fitted but dont want to break the catch if possible.

Can I suggest that anyone able to help with this does it by PM?

Probbaly not the sort of info that the many thousands of members here who have one would want being stuck on a public forum :blast

I had this conversation with a couple of the guys from Williams Manchester last week...

General conclusion then was if there's ANY way of getting hold of the key, you'll save a lot of trouble (and potentially expense!)
Luckily the chap on here I bought the box off lent me his spare key while I got the locks open and out, and re-keyed to suit mine!

Any chance?

Thanks for all the suggestions folks. Someone suggested I try another key and lo and behold in the bottom of my "man's drawer" in the kitchen I found one of the old plastic ones from another bike and it worked!
So much for security then....and another reason why us men have that special drawer in the kitchen! Just need to recode now although Balderstons have offered to do it for nothing so may take a trip up and order some larger GSA handguards. Any excuse for a ride.

Heard there's only 24 different combinations on the luggage locks so not bad luck there.

Padge,

Are you saying that one in every 24 GS owners can open my top-box and panniers???

That seems like a hell of a safety issue!!!

Surprising from a company like BMW???

Correct me if I am wrong, but when you re-key the lock, you can at that stage add additional followers to make the lock more secure.
