I’ve tried MRA it’s just very awkward and not as user friendly as Basecamp...... In Basecamp, creat a route and send to device, job done. None of this swapping to GPX or anything

Basecamp was proper shit, in my experience. MRA is proper easy to use.

Indeed, Basecamp is clever as it uses a Database and is great for re-using waypoing locations etc, but so clunky compared to just clicking and go-ing on MRA, and being able to just drag your line around the map.

You can also send a route direct from MRA to a Garmin XT as it hooks into the Garmin Drive app, so I can have a load of possible routes for a trip and just decide what one I want and send it to the XT direct from the phone, or use the phone to modify a route on the fly, or create a route on the phone / a tablet in the Hotel one night and just send it to the XT from the phone.

Tried MRA but found a mix of Waze and Google Maps via Android Auto was fine for my needs. I can get around the 10 waypoint limit using a Chrome plugin.

Dragging the route is exactly what basecamp does, just pick up the route and move it to where you want. MRA at least for me won’t do that. All this garmin drive app stuff with MRA again makes it difficult and not user friendly. With basecamp it just sends the route to the device. Plus, and it’s a very big plus. Basecamp costs nothing.

yes, but I don’t think that’s an actual download of the full new install MapSource. It’s a specific update, if you have MapSource already installed, which is why I posted the link to the workaround

MapSource program updates can be downloaded for free from Garmin’s site, but updates will not install unless you have previously installed a version of MapSource on your computer. One way to fulfill this “previous install requirement” is to first download and install the free Garmin BaseCamp program. Then, download and install the free MapSource Update. From that point on, you should have a working copy of both BaseCamp and MapSource. You can uninstall BaseCamp and still use MapSource if you decide not to use BaseCamp

this is the reason i said download base camp first and linked the info for both. this was a point i made for others wishing to use a free piece of very usefull software if they wish. but you are correct in saying that the update is not the stand alone piece of software.

This is correct and is a handy way to install Mapsource on a modern PC even if you have the original Installation CD as most modern PC's no longer have a DVD/CD drive.

Thanks all. I did see that download page but thought it was referring to specific mapping for the US. Doh!
