I cannot believe I am asking this, and I am already expecting to be shot down for asking... but as there seems to be a few mac experts here

Even though I have managed to copy a data CD successfully about a month ago - using disk Utility, now all OSX does is copy the image file itself onto the blank CD. I have no idea why.

Surely it doesn't matter if it is a Music cd ?

I have so far tried this...

But to no avail.

I have a new ali iMac, if the level of OSX matters.

Here's hoping someone knows

Have a try with "Toast Titanium" disc utility. Worth the cost IMHO as it makes disc writing very easy.

thanks Bladerunner.

does this mean that you can't natively copy a music CD in OS/X, without the use of Third Party software ?

I'm surprised then if that is the case.

Dare I say that is worse than in Windows ?

cheers

This may be a roundabout way of doing it, but you could import the album into iTunes, then burn a disc using iTunes. Ensure you have chosen 'Music CD' as the output in Preferences.

:agree.......I-Tunes is already pre-loaded onto Macs as far as I know & even if it isn`t it`s a free download & to burn a CD using I-Tunes could`nt be easier....:thumb
Open I-Tunes, put disk to be copied into disc drive, you will then be asked via I-Tunes if you want to import the disk. Once imported into I-Tunes (takes only a couple of minutes) create a new "Playlist" drag tunes required from main I-Tunes music list into the created playlist.
Then insert blank disc to be burnt into disk drive, it will then appear on the desk top, open the created playlist, select tunes & drag over to the disk on the desktop.
Next step, drag disc icon over the "waste basket", the basket icon changes & proceeds with the the burn, once complete eject disc - done - easy.

+1 for Titanium Toast. A very simple utility that does everything you need!

Why oh why would you advice someone to fork out extra money for software when a programme that will allow you to do what you want SIMPLY already exists on your MAC...:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau

Thank you Dave56.

Even though I had already read your reply, somehow I believed that you were alluding to some other copying method on the Mac. No idea why I would think that.

Will give it a go.

Well it depends what he wants to do. Using iTunes won't create an exact copy of the original CD - it will create an audio CD with the tracks in the same order, and at a lower quality if the iTunes import settings weren't previously changed to a lossless format. For many people this will be adequate.

However Toast Titanium will copy the CD bit by bit, so it will be an exact duplicate.

If you don't want to use iTunes you can do it with Disk Utility.

You'll find it in the utilities folder which is in the applications one.

Insert the CD and refuse the iTunes import option. Open Disc Utility and highlight the disc in the list on the left. Then click on the 'New Image' icon at the top of the window. Select the contents of the CD and choose 'CD/DVD Master as the image format.

Choose the location for the image and click OK. When its finished you can select it on the left (like you did the CD) and then choose burn from the icons on the top. Follow the instructions and voila! :)
