How fantastic is Northumberland!

Northumberland is a horrible place , nothing between Newcastle and Berwick other than post industrial wastelands and old pit heaps apart from the areas either side of the A1 and a few of the other main roads that have been landscaped to trick those passing through.
Do yourselves a favour and continue north into beautiful Scotland or south into stunning Co Durham and Yorkshire as there is nothing to see up here .

My favourite was Wark, until the hotel closed during Covid

Which Wark we have two , which was a pita when you got sent to the wrong one on a job, same as having a Catton and a Chatton at either end of the county

North of Chollerford. We used to stay in the black bull hotel. Nice place and a shame the hotel closed.

We also have Hartside Pass - the best motorcycle road in the UK ❤️

OK .... so it's in Cumbria but close enough. :D

You say that, but for my money the road from Barney castle to Edmund buyers is hard to beat.

I agree. I used it last time I went to Scotland from a stopover in Reeth. I had lunch in Corbridge which seems a nice little town.

Grants bakery in Corbridge is good.
it is - I had some sort of savoury pastry and a coffee from there and sat on a bench by the church watching the world go by for half an hour

You don’t need to sit outside nowadays. It’s got its own indoor seating area now. It’s got a bit pricey though

Years ago (Possibly 1987) a bunch of us were staying in the Hillcrest Hotel in Alston. We were coming up Hartside summit from the lakes (in the dark it was late October) and a friend of mine was leading the group on his new K100RT when we hit a patch of diesel that had been laid down on one of the tighter corners, he and his then girlfriend when down in a heap...........things were rather frosty at dinner, as he ran to pick up the bike before ensuring that she was OK :D

Yes - that was a common occurrence at one particular corner on the Penrith side a few years ago.

The gossip around the cafe at the top (before it burnt down) was that is was a deliberate act by a local farmer.

Diesel = no chance DAMHIK.

Is that the same farmers now whining about Inheritance Tax changes? Fuck ‘em if that’s what they think of bikers

Yes that is a really great road too. ❤️

Muggleswick Common between Stanhope and Edmundbyers used to have a GPO (BT) Radio Station - part of the DEW Line communications network (long since redundant).

Used to be fun in the winter getting over the fence. :D
