I have just bought a 2001 R1150GS. I want to fit OEM heated grips. The heated grips are available, so is the RH switch. Are all of the connections there on the loom or is it more complicated?

Thanks

Colin

I fitted them onto a 2000 model year and all the correct connections were there. From memory even the fuse was in.

Four wires in two small block connectors on the headstock under the tank.

You might just want to check that the handlebars have a hole at the mid-point, for the cables to come out of. If not, you may also need to change the handlebars if they're not already set up to accommodate the heated grips.

Has it got the larger Bosch capacity alternator fitted , early non heated grip /non abs bikes came with a smaller capacity Denso alternator which was not supposedly up to the job of running heated grips /lights etc during the winter

Give them to Mikeyboy and he'll do it.

That's what I'd do.

Gorgeous bike, by the way. Saw it to day. Looked mint, licked the tank, tasted minty!

Motobins did the complete kit with new handlebars for reasonable money a while back. Worth asking.

Change the handlebars ??? are you jesting. Just drill three holes and file them out.

How to drill the holes used to be in the "fitting heated grips" instructions until bmw realised they could sell you a set of handlebars and changed the instructions accordingly. .

Very easy, I did it on my bike. Hardest bit would be having to drill the holes if you don't have them in the bars. It's a good excuse for repainting the bars should they need it too.

Yep thanks for that. I haven't checked my bars yet, as I'm on holls, but either way no new bars, great.
