Hi gents

I just returned from london to turkey bike trip and left the bike parked in turkey for 5 weeks. I am going back to pick up the bike 5 weeks later. I was just wondering how long a battery can last . The bike parked in a cool and dry place and i have got an exide battery on it.
Sould i expect the battery dead ? Thanks

my bike was layed up for a long time and it's fine.....

monitor it, or actually you'll get a feel for it....:thumb2

If the battery is in good nick and you don't have an alarm I would expect 5 weeks to be fine. I changed my original Exide after 9 years because (with an alarm) it was getting lazy but still starting the bike after a week or two...

No i have no alarm on it. Hope it will be alright .

I think I read a fully charged lead acid battery will loose 1 % charge per day 2 % charge if it has a alarm connected to and not long at all if you have a bad earth leakage
so with the above example 5 weeks ( fully charged battery ) with an alarm will have dropped 70 % and that's gona be best case scenario

I am sure some one will come along soon and correct me :D

But he doesn't have an alarm so on your figures 35 days at 1% per day so still 65% charged, it should be fine if the battery is in good nick.

..and that's just the battery with no drain on it.

The clock on the RID will be pulling a few tenths of an amp all the time......people also tend to leave their converters for GPS power hooked up to the bike and that will pull even more power, even without the GPS in the cradle.

With a 19AH battery (usually) on a GS, they will all go flat after a while....you can do the maths :)

Except it isn't linear. The more discharged a battery is, the more quickly it becomes fecked.

And a 19Ah battery doesn't hold 19 usable Ahrs!

The OP should accept that the battery, nay, the bike is fecked. I'll offer £250 unseen and even collect. Can't say fairer than that.

:D

Pull out fuse 3 and 5 while it's parked and they'll be no drain.

Too late to pull out :) already back. No alarm and no optimaser on the bike. I just left it without anythink plugged. It was in a good gondition so far .

What would the worst scene would be ? Jump-start from a car?

Jump start from a car should sort it in the unlikely event it doesn't just fire up by itself, would be my guess.

If it was me I'd relax and be willing to buy someone in Turkey a coffee/beer in return for help with a jump start in the unlikely event it's needed. I wouldn't sell the bike for 250 quid, even to somebody who is willing to go out and collect it...

I'm just trying to save Mr Masters the cost and hassle of a hundred round trips to Istanbul, bringing back a few dismantled parts in his carry-on luggage each time.

Honestly, it's not a problem. Cash waiting.

:D
