Theres a few folk on here with early 12`s but have you had it from new? Mine is an October 1st 2004 that I`ve had from spanking new :D I have toyed with other bikes but with being a big lad some I want I can`t fit on :( and I`m not spending £5k and my bike for a new 12 :blast

In fact I don`t think theres anyone who`s had their 12GS for as long as I`ve had mine :augie :D

Mine in '04 model, I bought it in July 05 with 1800kms. Now has 65k kms, no probs only finding time to ride it.
Same story, show me a better bike and I will buy it. Until then....:bounce1

That's some mileage!, i'll bet it's loosening up nicely, does it use any oil?

no it use's no oil at all and its never broken down just serviced regular :D .me and jackassdave rode his 05 plate 8,000 miler and mine back to back and you really cant tell the differance. it still rides like new with no baggyness or sagging .Sign of a well made bike i would say:bounce1

Have you kept a log on consumables?, how long tyres last?, brake pads?, servicing costs? etc, you could let us fair weather riders know what we're in for as the miles mount up.

I use Metzler Tourance tyres and get about 8500miles to rear and front lasts for 2 rear.

Front Brake pads never changed still original.
Rear Brake pads changed at 12000miles, but the new set were faulty or something as at 15000miles they scored the discs so were replaced under warrentee. The dealer replaced them with RT rear pads (harder) and they are still on the bike now but will need replacing very soon.

Servicing costs £138 - £200 After 30000miles and two years started doing my own servicing so just price of parts.

Had mine new in September 06. Done 40,000 just about trouble free miles. It`s never used a drop of oil and still on it`s original battery despite living outside. It gets washed occasionally and has no noticable corrosion. It`s been on and off road, been crashed a few times and still rides like a new one:thumb

I`ve never logged costs because it doesn`t interest me but I`ve never paid more than £220 for a dealer service which is acceptable.

If the costs bothered me, I wouldn`t have a bike because it`s all about enjoying it and not worrying too much. I put tyres on when it needs them and fuel in the tank when it`s low.

It`s a great bike:D

Had mine new since March 05. 36000 miles. Use it virtually everyday for commuting and once/twice a year for really long haul trips to Europe - did the last Morrocco dash with it. Full BMW dealer service (pricey but piece of mind stuff). Some warranty issues in early days all sorted. Oil consumption settled down to virtually none now. Original battery. No real issues really - looking to replace this year - probably with the same or, subject to test ride - an r1200r - but whenever I really think about what I do with it and what I want the bike to do the GS is the only one that ticks all the boxes.

My 12 will be 4 years old next month had it from new & 20,000 miles :D
Had re-maps & an abs mod early on + a new front cover at the end of it's warranty.Stopped using oil around 15'000, Done a number of mods corbin seats, tie downs, on luggage & third power plug not controled by cambus so i can use when camping (phone charger etc with ign off) & some cosmetic changes, will keep the 12 till next bike comes out i like better than the gs (also have an 1100 with 92'000 on the clock):aidan
