How long have you had your 12?

I think mine may be the oldest 1200 on this forum it was first registered in March 2004 as a dealer demo (unless yours is older?), but I've owned it myself since early 2005, would have to dig my logbook out to see exactly when I registered it in my name.

Like so many say, why change when it does exactly what it says on the tin. I'd love a new GSA but only as a style change, not because I need/can afford one.

Currently at a mere 35,000 miles (didn't use it much last year) and it's now my main form of transport again.

Mine is a youngster compared to some of the above - got it new Mar'07 - but I have done 32500 miles, all pleasure, 'cos I'm retired.

Gearbox oil leak - I never noticed it, the dealer did, on a service, very slight misting, fixed.
Rear brake disc replaced - dealer said it was warped - again I never noticed, and couldn't feel it even when they told me, but they replaced it anyway.
Rear axle oil leak - I did notice this, but it wasn't that bad - fixed.

No other problems at all - a recall for the "ring antenna" whatever the f*** that is - (to do with ignition key I think).

Apart from the above, absolutely no problems at all, a joy - oh! and it uses virtually no oil, in fact in between the last two services I don't think I had to top it up at all.

I've just chopped it in for a new GSA with all the whistles on it, so I'll see how I get on with that. I've always fancied one, so I thought I'd better get one before I get too old.

So does this qualify?

Phil

Brand new in June '05 and today has 20,960 miles showing.

Problems ? Well, a couple of minor recall jobs and the gearbox seals were replaced at the 12k service, but more as a precaution than necessity (and about four days before the warrenty ran out :D). Rear pads replaced at same service but fronts still going strong.

Came with Dunlop tyres which only lasted 4500 miles, replaced with Tourances with the first rear doing 9k but this rear is going to be knackered by 7.5k.

Spend wise, probably far too much, but it's my biggest toy and I like my toys. :)

Current condition...........it's a credit to me. :aidan

Took delivery April 2004. 54,000km to date. Not used for commuting.

The rest of you are just new boys compared to us 3 :D I just had a look and mine was reg on 29/9/04
I`d rather change bling on the bike than the bike.
I`ve had-
3 screens
3 end cans
3 huggers
2 sets of aux lights
4 different sets of tyres
2 luggage systems
1 set of H&B crash bars

Not one bit of TT :D

I've not had any of the mechanical problems that are mentioned on this site either, FD ok, FPC ok, no corrosion, no brake discs/pads worn, key antenna,...did have a flat battery early in its life, but i think that was my own fault, i recharged it, and it's only lately that it may be on the way out, lack of regular use i suppose.:) I did the brake disc mod, re-routed the front abs sensor cable, fitted 2 extra aux sockets, replaced various bolts/screws with stainless items, including the disc bolts, front mudguard extenda, BMW (Akrapovic) sports end can, and that about it, rest is standard pretty much. First two services at SPC, and last one at CW...and my side panels have never blown off in the wind,..i do them up properly!

how long?

got mine march '07,an '05 plate with 4k on clock.paid £8k from rainbow, bog standard, with no extras fitted.now got 10500 on clock, but would have been a lot more had i not had knee, and recently, shoulder op (i'm 55,and falling apart, bit by bit!)......no probs.was in rainbow yesterday for a quick blast to book an mot/serv.place was heaving (as was J&S shoppy at donny)...shame about the 20p coffee machine tho at rainbow.all the cash that get's spent in there.........
will let you know a price b/down for work later if it helps....tyke
oh, rode the bike without screen on.anyone else done it?...bit 'bumpy' around 69.74 mph (officer) but ok once you got use to it..main worry was,the clocks/bottom guard for screen made it feel i was on a bit 'streetfighter' type bike, made me behave a tad irresponsible and totally out or character!!!!.tee hee

September 2006, 13,500 miles no issues as yet. Used some oil once in Italy on a scorching hot day between Chamonix and the Dolomites, topped her up and never used any since between services.

Did nearly 10,000 miles the first year and a paltry 3500 last year due to crap weather and holidays being crammed together leaving me little time between.

PDI'd 1/10/04. Had it from new as per previous post. 30,000 not trouble free miles, but it's mine all mine!

September 04 owned from new. 22000 miles to date. F/Drive and gearbox replaced at 12000 miles under warranty. Front engine cover and front discs replaced 20000 miles free out of warranty. But still love it to bits.

April '05, 17000mls. Original battery and corroded front cover replaced under warranty, final drive unit replaced out of warranty as a 'goodwill gesture' at 13k. Only other problem has been a faulty indicator switch. The bike is great and does all its work splendidly so not thinking of changing it yet. Stay safe, everyone.

August 08 seen the departure of my VFR Vtec and the arrival of my lowered 1200 GS.
Best move Ive made. 3500 miles, mainly commuting, like a pig in sh*t!
Wouldnt have been possible before, unless I hade me platform boots on lol.

No problems ............... yet:augie

I am at the other end of milage spectrum.
Bought a 54 plate with 5000 miles 3 weeks ago, so I would guess still being run in.
Immaculate condition as you might imagine for lo-miler.

Did a few hundred miles at the weekend, and it was just so enjoyable.

Aug '07 14.5K miles, new tires at 12k, front engine cover (chipped) replaced at same time, no other faults (fingers crossed)

Bought mine new in '05, replaced a faulty FPC and the battery, other than that nothing. I like it so much I just blew a wad on it (wad = cash, not what you you're thinking) because I can't see any reason to replace it with anything else and so expect to keep it for at least another 3-4 years.

Who owned that bike before you ? Did they keep it indoors as an ornament??

I'd hate to pay that many 'pence-per-mile', what a waste of a great bike. Presumably they had a fleet of bikes and just rode each of them a little. I hope you get out on it a lot more than the previous owner did and get your moneys worth out of it, they improve with use.

Don't be surprised if your bike still consumes a lot of oil for the next 10,000 miles as it is nowhere near run-in yet.

That'll take some beating, 5 years in April as an original owner bike, had any problems with it?

1. Kill switch replaced
2. Gearbox/engine seals replaced at 50,000km (3 leaking)
3. Fork seals replaced at 40,000km (1 leaking)

Most riding is two up with luggage. The GS was bought as a keeper. I am very happy with it. I also own a 1971 Ducati 450 Scrambler (for 30 years). Now she takes some looking after!
