How long is standard warrenty from new?

I will be getting a 12 GSA

But, for peace of mind i want to get one with the BMW warranty, now that either means brand new (sod that) or second hand from a BMW dealer.

But the later gives me a rather limited choice, the very nice man at BMW Oxford said they won't renew a warranty if it has already expired. But how long is the one from new? Is it just a year? Hoping its more, like 2 or 3

That way i could buy private and get it extended.

Thanks, so any bike newer than Oct '07 should be ok private, as long as it has full BMW service history

Thats correct yes, 2 years. You will gat a nice warranty card with the bike, telephone the number on it and BMW UK will transfer the warranty to you and send out a new card (free), includes UK/European roadside recovery etc. Near the end of the2 year period BMW will write to you inviting you to take out an extended warranty which in my humble opinion is good value also.

the extended warranty is worth its weight in gold
take the no extra payment if anything goes wrong - ie they pay 100%
do it monthly -costs £33.00
start date soon as 24 month ends
and end date is when you cancel it
and you are covered up to 80,000 miles for loads of stuff
used it twice already - this week in fact
no probs with BMW at all
both probs were way over the annual cost

That's correct.. no card but your details and cover will be in their system. If you have a problem ring them, quote the details and Bob's your sisters brother
