how long to ride from the Chunnel to Wales?

Where in Wales?

Chunnel to Newport - about 3½ hours

Chunnel to Holyhead - about 8 hours

Depending on traffic, you sould see the Severn Bridge in 3-4 hours, I live by Aberystwyth which is another 2 hours.

takes me 2.5 hours from London the Welshpool taking it nice and steady Menai bridge is about 70 miles (1.5 hours)

Dont suppose you want to look at south Wales:augie

:blast i should have been more specific.....

my thoughts were around how long it would take to get around London and all its Traffic / shiite.

The times given gives me a good idea for how long to get to the border

Sounds very feasable for a weekend trip from Holland

Cheers

Takes me 3-4 hours to get home, depending on traffic (worst bit is the M25 between the Gatwick turn & Heathrow).

I usually stop just the once for a refuel & comfort break.

Home is Abergavenny, about 30 miles from the Severn Crossing and where some of the more interesting roads begin.

If you are heading for Mid or North Wales then look to cross the River Severn near Gloucester, Worcester or Shrewsbury.

I've just has a look at bestbikingroads.com and there seams to be a fair amount around your neck of the woods! Is there any particular parts, roads etc of Wales that stand out / you'd recommend?

Looking at the low cost of the chunnel tickets. I was looking at the idea of riding across to wales for 3-4 days.

How long do you reckon would it take to get from the Chunnel to Wales? 5 hrs?
I came back on the bike a couple of weeks ago - 1150 ex Calais - managed to get to Chester for 1830 (this included a call-out to BMW with drowned switches on the M20 - about 1 hour). M20 > M40> M42 (but don't go East to M6 - too many cameras; go west to M5) M5 > M6> M54 > A41

I think I'd go to Mid/South Wales - good roads and closer for you. Llandrindod is OK http://www.bestbikingroads.com/motorcyclegps.php?n=A483-Llandrindod-Wells-Newtown&code=11679

It all depends on what type of road you like and whether you want to have plenty of pretty scenery.

I tend to avoid trunk roads (usually represented by thick green lines on UK maps) and stick to the minor A roads (red) or B roads (yellow). These will give you a nice mixture of scenic and fast riding roads.

As an example: if you wanted to get from Brecon to Builth Wells then I'd recommend taking the B4520 through Upper Chapel rather than the A470 via Erwood.

The A470 is a lovely road through the Wye Valley but it attracts idiots on sports bikes, boy racers in their Subarus, caravans and lorries. Consequently, the local police see it as an easy target for cash generation. Stick to the B road as it will have little traffic and be free from police.

My best time from Dover to Swansea was 3 3/4 hours, but that was after midnight!!!!

Realistically, the Severn Crossing in 3 - 4 hours. Swansea is about an hour from the bridge.

Personally, I go onto the M20 from Dover, M26 then M25 until Junction 12, then take the M3 to Junction 3. Turn onto the A322 to Bracknell then the A329 to the A329(M) and join the M4 to South Wales and the West. This route cuts out a lot of the most congested section of the M25 to M4.
