how many miles would you get from ohlin shocks before they need a service

iv got a set on my gs they have covered about 15.000 miles one up no off roading

what would you recommend

how much isit ands whos best to use

In my view you only have one sensible choice... speak to Nick at Kais on +44 (0) 1942 896366

He has rebuilt my rear and services my other sets on a irregular basis ~45,000 miles between each service though.

Obviously wear depends on how the shock was used. Easy tarmac, or rough off-road. Was told a rebuild is due every 20,000 miles. I think it is hard to believe. Who would rebuild their Ohlins yearly?

Design spec is 20k miles - I ride mine until they fail then refit my originals whilst I get them repaired. Repair/service prices will depend entirely on what they find when they strip it. I have had to replace a rear shaft (stone ding) and a front casing (corrosion causing splitting). Any Ohlins dealer will be able to give you a fixed price if nothing but the seals and gas need replacing. I can personally recommend both Harris (in Herts) and FTR Suspension in Bury St Edmunds, who set up my current bike in 2013...

iv emailed kais-ohlins.co.uk plus there only like 15 miles way from me so i hope they can sort me out

I'm surprised at the design period being so short, 20,000 miles is nothing when you compare the price.
My works van has done 75,000 miles on OEM shocks, fully loaded all the time and constantly dropping into potholes, yet the shocks feel good (compared to driving a 20,000 mile hire van while mine was in for service)
So considering I can buy four shocks for the van for the price of a single bike shock, seems like a pretty shitty deal to me :nenau

You don't value decent performance, from an Ohlins shock then:blast

I suppose, you don't miss what you've never had:P

Stick to your view

Another +1 for Kais from me. They have serviced the Ohlins on my 1200, and helped with the WP forks on my KTM, when I got a bit lost servicing them myself.

Nick at Kais is the man to see. He'll have a chat with you and explain anything you need to know regarding the Ohlins. He did both of mine on my 1150 and I was pleased with the result, he even upgraded the rear spring to match my spec for touring. He also sorted two of my previous bike suspension woes at a reasonable cost.Top class bloke as with all his family.
A word to the wise though, due to the expense of rebuilds once you get your shock(s) back put a "sock" over them. My front shock blew due to being exposed to all the road crud and the rear is not much better. The official Ohlins one costs a fortune for what it is so i used a length of inner tube which worked great and did not affect the damping. 20k/25k seems about right for a full service on these shocks.

Had mine serviced and a heavier duty spring added at Firefox after 62,000.

The guy wondered why I was having it rebuilt cos there was nothing wrong with it - he was amazed at the mileage.

Mixed riding but only light off road - I spray with WD40 o a regular basis.

Had mine serviced by Kais at around near 20k miles in 3 months of much heavy off road use, the oil was wrecked and the same would apply to any shock but perhaps if it's a fairly poor quality one to start off with, you wouldn't notice such a marked change.
