how many mm left before you change your front pads?

I have 2mm left - what do you do?

At £45 quid to replace the 4 pads, interested to know what you lot do!

For a start, I'd call Neil and get them cheaper.

(although TBH, I'd call GSF as well as we have an account with them for trade prices)

If I was being tight, I'd buy the pads anyway (you know you're going to need them) then change them at the roadside or at a cafe when needed.

If I wasn't being tight, I'd just change them now.......brakes aren't worth risking a few pannies worth of wear on.

IIRC 1.5mm is the limit recommended by BMW.

i'd be buying new pads pronto, if i was going much further than the end of my drive.

BMW price for 4 pads is over £100 BTW.

aye ta for reply - i've got them now as I am changing back to my TKC boots for a weekend at Overlander Trail Tours, but as cleaning up all the dust etc I thought I would ask...

They dont look too bad, considering new pads only have about 5mm on them.

Just wee-ondering.....

Pads wearing right down isn't a problem.....but they DO start causing disc wear the second the metal touches metal......

Metal on metal=heat=boiled brake fluid potentially, which = no brakes quite suddenly

and you have the added bonus of removing any dirt and debris from your disks.

if you dont' change them for 30.5miles after that you can also solve the disk warp problem.

Don't forget they may wear out much faster when used offroad

If you have to measure them to see if they're still legal they need changing.

I find the metal touches the un swept portion of the disc first so that's the time.

Unless you are going on a big trip - buy new and save the old

the new pads dont feckin fit!

all done - i had 2.5 - 3mm allround.
went to get some new ones and they were in stock... BUT THEY DIDNT FECKIN FIT.

bugger. Too tall and not long enough (front to back), yet they look incredibly similar... EBC F335HH no good, yet the book says they are the right ones...

Two versions. And they fitted them randomly.

Wait for the fun and games if you have to order the discs. They are also different. Two types.
