Para,
believe it or not my battery is still the original, when I bought the bike it was cream crackered but as I ride every day after a few weeks it was fine again. Now after the recent cold snap I have been having to jump start it from time to time.Which is a pain in the behind but only takes about ten minutes to do. (Undo the tank for access). Maybe what I should do is just go the optimate way. As recently I have been working less with the bike therefore after six days non use it won't start. But once I use it its OK again as long as I ride twice in the week.
As my avatar says "ride to work and back" that is exactly what I do and if I work from home it does not get used....

No need to undo the tank just remove the one allen key bolt from the starter motor cover

Stick the red lead on the starter terminal and the black to earth, the centre stand is handy

About one minute !;)
