How much for one of these?

I was offered a mono g/s in the early 90's for £800 but turned it down because it was overpriced. They were quite often being used for little more than field bikes at that time and were not popular and often badly neglected. The small tank was the one to have and the big tanks were discarded in favour of them. I'm sure Glynn from Nottingham said he had 2 or 3 Paris Dakar tanks sitting in his shed that he had bought cheaply.

That seems to be the other side of classic stuff. If they get "cheap" then often they just die off.

Wish I had the spare cash to have one. don't think I could have it as the primary bike given my lack of skills. There is no BMW assist to call when you need the bulb changing :D

I don't know :nenau
All this chopping and changing bikes..
It never happens in my garage.
15 years owning Gertie and still not felt the need to change :rob
Only BMW bikes to leave in the last 6 years have been a para and a 80/7 :augie

Roger must be unfulfilled and keeps seeking 'the next best thing' perhaps

I believe that now I have the stable of bikes that suits me and I no longer yearn for anything else

The R11RT, R1150GSA and XChallenge do it for me

What few skills you may have will be easier to use on an airhead and you spend £70 on RAC membership.

The one I would have bought most recently would have been Robs.

Decals and powder coat the frame ... bingo.

So you goto Bingo on it then? Does it pull the Ladiesss :D

I am not sure I am ready for Bingo :mmmm

Not at all, I just lack space for more than 3 bikes at a time and have to rationalise the collection. :P

I understand the space issue, with a single garage

Space isn't my issue....................I could fit in 30 bikes if I wanted:D

Last year I had 7 and found that 3 weren't being used:blast

The unused 3 - Classic, rare and desirable as they were.....................they were of little real use, except for ornamentation or the desire, just to own them because I could

So I sold them and their clutter - which made me feel happier.

I don't miss them, even after owning them for the best part of 8-10 years

The remaining 3 - all BMW's that I own satisfy my biking desires completely and now I have time to use and ride them for their intended purpose

I don't need any bling for them either - they are complete

Therefore I am happy with what I have and not what I can chase after.

It has taken me a while to realise........................but the next best thing or 'must-have' will not necessarily make you happy to ride

All I was meaning Roger, is that you have had some of the best and most desirable bikes that BMW make or have made in the last 2 years...................you've blinged them right up and then you've sold them on after a few weeks

So................just wondered what you are really looking for and haven't found yet?

If you desire something unique...................why not build or create it yourself...............rather than buy something someone else has created:nenau

Are you sure you are happier? You mention, on a regular basis that you are happy with your current choice of bikes, but are you really happy or are you trying to come to terms with your sad losses by over compensating on the 'I'm happy now, no I really am, really really happy':nenau

Never that happy Shep:D

Your Airhead GS was really nice. I am sure you were offered an amount you couldn't understand.

I am surprise you found that new x thing better?

Given you still use the airhead as your avatar?

Johnny

I'm glad (not happy mind cause each of us have our own definition of happiness :pullface) that I don't have more space if I did I suspect I'd end up in the situation you described you found yourself in, my 3 get ridden all the time just not at the same time cause that's not possible.

That limitation suits me as does fettling, fiddling and "blinging" if that's the word your happy with, it keeps me out of the pub and strangely though some may not believe it. sane.

Up to March last year I've only had one bike in the garage and I was happy. Bought my first Airhead, happier still, not riding the 1200 the way she should be ridden so she went to a good home and I've been happy changing, fiddling and fettling ever since.

The only bike I've had for a few weeks as you put it has been the 1100RT, and it made me very happy I can tell you, but what will be filling her spot in the limited space available will make me happier still because it suits my current requirements (and note I say current cause next week, month, year decade these will change) and if it had been available when I found the RT the Rt would never have been in the garage and I'd have missed out on a fantastic bike.

Not looking for something unique, not looking for something different I'm happy doing what I'm doing and as the new owners of my previous charges are now very happy it seems like the right thing for me.

Now this lengthy response is keeping me away from a bit of fettling and blinging but its worth it if it's made you happy.

Happy? :D

I know Shep

Of course we all have mad desires from time to time about bikes etc.............but in reality, no they don't do it for me for one reason or another..... after a long hard think

It's taken me a while to get there and realise, but yep .....................these bikes will do for me:thumb

Instead of spending money trading bikes..................i'm gonna do more stuff on the ones I have:cool:

It wasn't meant as a dig........................:beerjug:

Avatar has been changed, Tom

The Airheads i have owned, albeit good examples and one was certainly unique................were really just old bikes, that summed it up for me............old bikes

I rode that special GS again in July and whilst ok...............it doesn't light me fire anymore..................much better off with Wreford

The XChallenge to me is a far better dirt bike, the chassis has been designed with the use in mind and it's not a modified road bike, that the airhead special was

Whatton is the kiddie:thumb

One bike, set up just as he wants it...............no worries

He just rides and rides it...............................he looks forward to where it will take him.................not backwards, thinking he would be better on another flashier bike

His bike isn't an extention of his ego.................he doesn't need to do that...........he's found what he's looking for:clap

Whatton's a sorted type of bloke:thumb

Don't change that avatar on my account.

It was a lovely bike :thumb2

I wish I was Whatton :D

BUT ... how did a thread about the price of Airheads turn into me wanting to be Whatton? :nenau

Is that what happens in the Airhead section .. bit like the twilight zone?
