How much fuel ? GSA

Canbus fluid,

Be carefull of synthetic, as you my find your bike only running on two cylinders, Steptoe will sort it out if it does so don't panic.

Now I AM confused

I understood that the canbus fluid was only introduced post '05 - as an ingenious way to combine all the fluid components of the bike into one - so the brake/engine oil/gear box oil etc are all filled through the same nipple and the technology alters the shimmy according to the rider's style (and of course the pre set EEC regulated morphits).

As I have an '03 1150GSA I have only been using brake fluid for the engine, and not the gear box - where I have always relied on plain normal screen wash.

Or am I wrong?

A little wrong I think, screenwash is okay in your gearbox but it will change a lot more smoothly with ultraseal :thumb2

Mineral, at least until the EWS gaps stabilise, mine are fine with over 100k and I only ever use the mineral stuff, Timpsons or even Stead and Simpsons usually have it, and remember, if it leaks on the road it can be topped up with Buttercup Syrup, but of course flush the system when you get home, otherwise the paralever corrodes externally :thumb2

My 03 T/S GSAs' done 19000 miles and has black engine cases. What Mileage do you think that the EWS gaps finally close? and will Benylin do as a 'Get you home' if I get a leak ?????..
I read that soaking your Air Filter in Anusol can help too.....Just the Regular Flavour one tho, Apparantly the Cherry or Fruits of the Forest don't work as well.

your right, far too sticky, end up clogging the canbus flow valve and the backside cylinder leaks, usually some brown fluid, but as i have a 1100, thats where the flames come out.

not sure if this helps, but on occasion, i have noticed a rather slack clack valve, usually following the opening of the kebab valve,

anyhoo, back to the issue of non standard fluid injection through the back door, i understand it helps maintain that high pitch squeal.

An old man stood next to my bike once.

Just read this....It needs posting on the 1200 forum, I've got tears running down my face, Is it ok to Inhale Mineral Canbus Fluid ? :D

Its no wonder that you have got tears running down your face if you've Inhaled the Mineral Canbus Fluid. This must be treated with alcohol as a matter of some urgency in order to counter the effects of the Mineral Canbus Fluid.
Internal consumption along with a liberal dose applied externally should see you past the crisis phase. I recommend 4 pints to be drunk in the next 1/2 hour and get a mate to throw a 5th over your face. :drool
Act now to prevent long tern Minicanbusollities.

Actually RTFM, Benilyn is ok in ambient temperatures above 40c, so, if youre carrying it to use as backup chainlube then why not :nenau
Washed it today, checked EWS gaps, completely unchanged for 10k :thumb2 I think I am out of the woods on that one :D

Canbus fluid

Trying to think green I am going to try fermented pee, I think now the warmer weather is here this should happen fairly quickly about a week I reckon so whatch this space for signs of a real break through.
Dave (I can lower the tone anywhere, even on here and that IS saying something!) GS.

Honestly - this sort of thing makes my blood boil

You've got several thousand pounds worth of bike and then you go penny pinching with important things like canbus fluid.

I'd only ever use BMW branded canbus fluid in mine and I'd halve the change interval as well (every 200 miles) to be on the safe side.

edit: Ooh look 2000 - posts....

Maybe someone has fitted one of my prototypes, which were stolen by a gang of beardies with wearing slippers.

http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=94097&highlight=tank

Now that gives me an idea, if I fitted one of Dens ADV conversions I could run my canbus system total loss by connecting the bladders to the canbus fill nozzle (with my neat imperial/metric adapter) that would allow me to use any old canbus fluid that I could find, and the EWS would always be immersed in clean fluid :thumb2
My question to the panel here is, will my bike pass the MOT like this?

I have looked in the manual for the Engineering Without Success locating device that aids the removal of the chain. now it seems i cant find the chain nevermind the locating device.

I removed one of the chains (and associated wiring) as soon as the bike came into my posession, they certainly dont need all six :) I think BVM put them in there for extra durability, from memory if your chains have been replaced with aftermarket ones then they will not have the sensors fitted anyway, so computer diagnostics will be of no use, just count the number of visible links between the output flange (black rubber side) and the end of the tunnel, divide this by the number on the RID (in diagnostic mode) and the resulting number is the number of turns (inwards if the number is +ve outwards if number is -ve) that you turn the silver screw (T45) Easy, theres your canbus scavenging trimmed to perfection:thumb, and you did not need to touch the EWS stops at all :thumb2

having studied that picture of your chain and followed your instruction

just count the number of visible links between the output flange (black rubber side) and the end of the tunnel, divide this by the number on the RID (in diagnostic mode) and the resulting number is the number of turns (inwards if the number is +ve outwards if number is -ve)

i have to agree that this is much simpler than adapting sprocket to accept negative turn, especially when you need two hands to do the job.

as a note i have noted there is a distinct blue wire in your picture.

Yes, well spotted, the Blue wire is the wiring for my home made canbus fluid sensor, I cant say too much, but watch the Vendors section for a new product soon :thumb2

does my airhead have canbus? i think it has but i cant find a label saying it does, i deffo know it has EWS, (Electrical Winding System) because i have seen some wires wound together.

what i dont understand is whats this great big tank for in front of my seat?

ps, today i had some rather bad news, which quite honestly is a massive knock for me, i cant share this info publicly.
well i have been told (may have even just thought this up) that bmw are to make motorbikes that dont have wires!!!!!! whatever next

I dont know if your Airhead has canbus? My 1978 one actually ran with only a few wires, many of the required attachments being made with a kind of metallic string, I did find the chain in that one, but I left it in, I like your comms ideas, I might try something similar myself, most of the time my home constructed tight string intercom is okay, though we find that the tension is problematic under braking, with care bike to bike is actually possible :thumb2
