I've spotted a used one for sale and wonder how much it might be worth. Of course if I was stranded in the middle of no where with a duff Hall sensor it would be worth a lot but but I am only thinking of getting it to have as a spare..... just in case. Any idea what they should cost ???
It's for a 1999 R1100GS .

How's sunny Ireland today ? You'll be pleased to hear we are having a crap summer in Belgica - it's raining today like a monsoon !!!!

Ooer... then this one looks like a bargain . Might have to snap it up quickly. My bikes got about 110,000km on it and hasn't failed yet but it would seem prudent to get hold of this bargain while I can then .

Richie , just to make you feel good - here's yours truely and Mrs Gecko at about 12 meters off a reef in Northern Cyprus a few weeks back :D

Does this look complete and is there any way of testing it before I part with my hard earned cash ?

That's the right bit Marc.

The best way to test it is to mount it on, so you'll know next time how to do it on the road :aidan

I've done it once on my mate's bike, and not that hard. You must scratch-mark the position of old Hall sensor position into crank case precisely before removing the "old" sensor. Only then you have the correct ignition timing puting on the new sensor. Otherwise it'll be £££ for BMW service to re-set the ignition timing again with specialized Motronic diagnostics-computer.

I bought my spare Haller around 50-80EURo'ish or something from fleaBay. Haven't tested it yet tho :o

These articles may be useful:

Testing and replacing the individual hall effect sensors on the timing plate (cheap, but not a roadside job):
Hall sensor test / timing box: C...y special equipment ;) Carry on reading :D:D

Off topic , I know...

But the viz here is normaly as good as that, but at the moment with the bad weather its about 1 meter....

would really like to know an easier way of testing these, especially if its a simple in situ resistance test,or maybe tiny current fluctuation or..........reminds me of christmas eve as a kid.....
