How much to replace haul sensors. Re- yourself or garage

What are you worrying about. You've said they've been replaced on your bike.

I was considering buying the bike of a garage, who didnt tell me it had a problem. I found out who the previous owner was, and he told me the bike had broken down. This garage told him that the 'hall sensor' had failed, and would cost €1,000.0 to fix. He panicked, and then traded the bike for a varadero and was ripped of in the deal. He also said this happened a year ago. So the dealers had the bike for a year. I don't no anything about these bikes and am sussing it out. That's why I joined this site. Thanks for your advice.

Just gone through a HALL sensor replacement hell (and a couple of hauls as well) and I would really recommend spending additional ding for a new one Dan sells here:

That is IF you really have a HALL sensor failure.

I had to have 4 hall "failures" before I concluded it even wasn't sensor that failed, but Motronic.
The lesson: it is hard to diagnose hall sensor, the LED method is partly reliable due to heat and moist issues producing intermittent electrical issues.

To be 100% sure, rather get freshly soldered one.
(and even then, there was a terrible story of a bad *new* hall sensor. This is a horror story, mind you.)

I would also add that "Hall sensor failures" are rarely a hall sensor failures themselves but rather an electrical issue somewhere either on the Hall sensor wiring or other place. The mech's might have diagnosed an electrical problem somewhere whitch then they called "hall sensor failure" and dismissed the guy with a cost that might be reasonable if the problem is intermittent for exmaple.

there's a Greek company that make them and they are about half the price of the normal complete units....I don't know of anyone who has tried one yet, but the sensors and plate they are on are actually fairly simple devices so they ought to be OK :thumb

The Greek company is called Archon, I've had one of their sensors fitted for the last 2000 miles or so. Maybe too early to tell if will fail prematurely. I also bought some honeywell sensors and some heat resistant silicone cable and repaired my old sensor as a spare, so you have a couple of options cheaper than buying the original Bosch unit.
