Johnny, You need to do the GS community a favour and Name & Shame the robbing buggers .............:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun

I shouldn't really. At the end of the day, they did the work, and I paid the money. Any complaints I have I'll take up with the dealer directly, rather than post it here. I think it's a bit unfair to name and shame before I've raised an official complaint with them first and given them a chance to respond.

All I'd say is make sure you are very up front about your expectations with a dealer before you book anything in. My issue with this particular dealer, isn't just the price, but mainly the service recieved with that price.

I ahd my 6K and 1st annual at Vines at start of April it cost me £340 including £25 for the loan bike!! A bit expensive:eek:

It would be useful Johnny, so that we can compare their prices with otyher dealers. £300 for the 6k service seems excessive to me.

The highest part of the cost of a service is time. How long does a 6k service take, 4 hours?
I charge customers £75 per hour for our warehouse guys. So what does a BM dealer charge for a mechanic?
I notice BM make a big thing about knowing how much and how long it will be for various different car services, why can they not do the same for bikes?

241 euros at fersan in alicante , 90.40 euros was for the oil ,:augie included software update , bike goes a lot better now !!!! more acceleration and less vibration .

Perhaps we could use our collective power to maybe persuade dealers to advertise the prices they may offer to Tossers, costs of the various services with prices for annual checks for say 5 years

Thats interesting, the 6 12 & 18 are similar to my experience however the 24000 will be for me with a 2 year annual check £400 ish,

I've been quoted £500 for similar work, when questioned about the difference it appears they change the alternator belt at 24,000 that must be one hell of a belt for £100, i'll buy my own for less than £20 and fit it myself.

Ditto for me Shep (except I've had the 24,000 mile service, at just under £400). Since the 24,000 miler I've done my own servicing any way as it's now out of warranty.

As I'm at work I can't check but IIRC the belt is changed at 36,000 - at 24,000 they change the brake fluid in both circuits and gearbox oil (as well as all the usual stuff).

I guess some (but not all) difference may be down to what consumables are changed at service time :nenau eg whether you do stuff like pads yourself (as WMB branded pads as fitted by a dealer are boggin' expensive).

I'm happy to name and shame my dealer; Pidcocks - they have always given great service and dealt with warranty claims perfectly. Price wise they stack up reasonably well too :thumb2

Is the complicating factor the annual service charge?

If this comes at the same time as the 6000 mile service , do they add the two charges together.

My experience with Williams is that they combine the two but you don't pay for the two checks. Just a bit more than a 6000 miler IIRC.

But if you don't ask ...............

So how much would a 12,000 miler be? My bike was serviced when I bought it on 9,600 and the 12,00 is due now. I've been quoted £260 which I think is reasonable.

Enquired how much my 6K would cost.

Just been quoted £190 (6K without any surprises) by my main dealer (Southport Superbikes) and £134 by an independent technician (www.rgm-uk.com - he is highly recommended on this forum).

Unlike the earlier models, the 1200's a basted to do......BuMW's special tool will help no end, but they are about £60....

Will pay for itself.........in another 24,000 / 36,000 miles.....

How much did you pay for a 6k service recently?

About to hand out £300

Is that about right? If so .. how much will a 12k one cost

About £260 including VAT at Battersea last week. Labour £170 ex-VAT the rest was oil, filter, washers and so on. No pads in this total.

Why was mine £40 more?

Can you JPEG up your receipt? Or can I contact you to get details.

My labour line was the same amount.

It seems a regular problem these attempts at overcharging, of course there are differences in hourly rates and markups on consumables so you could expect a swing of maybe £20-£40 dealer to dealer, but on two occasions I have saved £100 by shopping around for the same product

Perhaps BMW Motorrad could anually publish a service price list we could use as a guide.

Just had the 24000 service and 2nd annual check done, i was quoted £380 including the loan bike.

They rang me in the morning and advised me the front pads were very low, so seeing as i had some in the panniers, I got them to fit them.

Imagine how pissed off I was when the final bill came to £326 they did extra work then charged me less than agreed:D

It made a very rainy day slightly brighter.

Well done NOG, thanks:thumb2

EDIT they also noticed a leaky clutch slave cylinder and replaced that under warrantee.

Last Friday, 2 years old, so annual inspection, service, change brake fluid.
£320, JC Aberdeen.

They could have at least told me to bend over and brace myself

Same service at Bahnstormer a few weeks ago was £270...but then Hampshire is such a low rent area. You have been royally buggered mate...

That said my BMW 320d had it's 20k mile service at about the same time. £173 inc VAT at Woods BMW in Odiham. I thought bikes were meant to be cheap to run?

1st annual incl software update and brake fix and loan bike £154 from South London Motorcycles.

Very good and prompt service.

Most impressed that even though brake fluid was changed they didn't charge me :beerjug::beerjug:as they did the brake modification

OK, here are the details from my monster bill. Deal is that it had 6000 mile service + 2nd annual inspection. Basicly I bought it a year ago as an ex demo with 2k miles. It had its 600 mile service march 2007, and I'm certain I was told when buying it would need servicing at either 6K miles or March 08 whichever was sooner. However, was told when booking it in it would now need its second annual as its first annual should have been in september 07.
