How often!!!???

I was lucky in two senses: I discovered an oil leak caused by one of the two oil seals involved going without suffering any oil contamination of the clutch, and it happened during the guarantee period of my bike (bought secondhand, dealer's guarantee). So it cost me nothing to get it fixed.

However, there was clear evidence of the oil leaking, as the joint between engine and gearbox was weeping oil. So if a seal has gone, then you should be able to see an oil weep from the engine.

Sorry, was a bit busy earlier. I have a thread going on the Techie section which ahs the details, but suffice to say, I am awaiting a response from BMW GB as to whether they are prepared to up their offer of recompense.
 
had exactly the same problem with oil contamination causing the clutch to slip at 22000miles, last four wheeled bwm I had did over 130000miles all on the same clutch. Maybe mottorad should talk to the designers over in the 4 wheel department to find out how to design it properly.
 
'Kin 'ell, it gets worse. I almost cannot believe how many people have had problems of exactly the same nature, all around the same mileage. Oh well, I will just keep counting. Still waiting to hear from BMW GB though!:rolleyes:
