A mate of mine recently had a incident with a SMIDSY on his R1150GS result was bust fork leg smashed beak and wishbone front mount bent, steering still turned only somewhat heavier than before. Still managed to ride it 5 miles home.
Bike was an insurance write off.
I thought the bike was fixable, but he decided to take the full payout from the insurance, as he had concerns of stress damage to the engine casings where the wishbone pivots.
I've never heard of the casings cracking in this area, given what the GS is designed for I thought it would be pretty robust.
