Hi,

I would like to ask a stupid question for a lot of you : is it bad for the bike to accelarate heavily and not fluently... I explain : when I accelarate where and when it is possible, I turn the trottle very fast and not smoothly. Is it dangerous for the engine to do that?
Best regards.

Marc

definitely doesn't hurt the engine (the engine will accelerate the fastest it can anyway, either you pop the throttle or smoothly-but-fast turn the throttle and be a bit "in front" of the engine - needs some experience)

it definitely hurts consumption A LOT (I mean A LOT), and as others said, can hurt you

Obviously more acceleration cost fuel. but why should opening the throttle rapidly hurt fuel consumption? Maybe with Carbs you would get excess fuel due to a accelerator pump, but with fuel injection, I would expect the computer to measure the engine rmp and decide not to dump in excess fuel (bad for the cat too I'd guess)

I guess 'snapping open' the throttle will 'shock' the transmission a bit compared to an initialy smooth roll on before going WOT (wide open throttle).

Mechanical sympathy :thumb

its either on or off

seroiusly the more you ride the more you will know the bike and how much to to give it. the bike dont mind except if you redline too much.

red line tastic

snapping on the throttle puts additional stress through all of the components in the drive train - engine, clutch, suspension, tyres. :rob

results in unsettling the bike and prematurely wearig most of the bits of the drive train.

key to progress is being smooth and progressive, means you get there with tie to spare (less frequent fuel stops) tand to make less frequent trips to get your bike fixed :thumb2 , and also you will tend to breeze past sports bike who are always hard on the throttle and hard on the brakes (like a yo-yo) :hug

as you put more miles in, you will find yourself to be in the right gear at the right speed for your overtakes, the result being you will use the brakes less and less.

Jammy..

what a frickin ridiculous question....has this guy got doughnuts for brains???

Race schools all teach that you roll on the throttle progressively, and be aggressive if you can. They aren't worried about the bike bits wearing out, of decreased fuel consumption, but they are worried about losing grip. Cracking the throttle wide open can lead to the rear tyre spinning up and losing grip, and also the front end going light. Neither are calculated to help the bikes stability on the road, but it's great fun!

no question is ridiculous if you sincerely want an answer.

cant say that much for your reply though

Where were you when they did the same to me (moderators too) years ago here?

I gained a nice ban after that too (since I had to take everything without response which is very unlikely for me).

Thanks for supporting mamac. :clap
