How to change the tax disc

Very very very sensible Whatton, I 've done the same as long as I can remember. Not to prevent theft as you might think, but because I couldn't be @rsed to fiddle around with the stupid holders, what the hell do you need all them hex key bolts on them for :nenau

Edit

One minute it was there.... the next it was gone....

Maybe I should charge BMW for the cr@p rivets on the tax disc holder... as apparently I'll now be charged for a replacement disc... :spitfire

Looks like carrying it in my pocket is going to be a better option...

I'm sorry to supply an anorak-type response to this thread but -

(1) The VEL must by law be positioned on the nearside of the motorbike and AHEAD of the front of the saddle, and

(2) Carrying a VEL in the riders pocket is an offense of "Failing to display..."

Sorry, I'll go now. :nono

I was told that it was a standard BMV tax disc holder that comes with the bike...

I could be wrong... :nenau

The stealer attaches an AFTERMARKET tax disc holder, probably a cheap & nasty Stadium one, that is neither use nor ornament as you found out :D

Perhaps, if you washed it more regularly it wouldn't have rusted and dropped off..........lol :mmmm

here in the wee green isle, well the south part as long as you have it on your person, not a problem

Jaysus, and there was me thinking that it was supposed to go over the numberplate. :o :D :D

Don't buy a replacement - because you don't know that you've lost it yet, do you ;)

Sorted!
Wait till day light. Open garage door for maximum light. See where it needs to go. Inside sleeve is a rubber bush assembley, so it can be pushed and forced a wee bit. One minute and thread caught. Result.
(£23 ride in ride out to have my loose Tourance tyres fitted, well worth it.)
Bonnie Scotland here I come.
Thanks for the advice guys!

Stolen tax disks..

If you have one nicked.. how many people have reported it to the police?

If you have one nicked.. how many people have reported it to the police?

I had one taken from my bike. Now I carry it in my pocket.

Didn't report it to the police as I didn't think they would be interested. Once had a copper stop me to tell me to move my tax disk from the middle bottom of a car windscreen to the lower LHS though - This is probably a worse offence than stealing tax discs? :nenau

I don't think I'd bother putting on on display on a bike again while its so easy for the theiving scumbags to redeem your hard earnt cash :spitfire

Reporting it..

If no one reports it, then the goverment get to say "crime figures are down".. if someone steals a tax disk, it means they are un-insured. That means we law abiding people have to pay for their criminal activity.

If someone stole your bike, would you report it? Whats the difference. Its just a phone call.. :rob :D
