How to measure seat height?

Hi all,might sound a silly question,but how do I measure my seat height? Is there a point to which I can measure to? I've had my 850Gs in for it's MOT (first one since I've had it) and the lad who did the MOT reckons it's been jacked up. Front end is very soft and he reckons that could be the reason why. ( I've got no idea,just repeating what the man said!!)
