I have to say that people should RTFM more, and I include myself in that. However, I have found the BMW manuals to be pretty dire, turgid and over techie, and hardly a model of clarity, so I don't blame people for resorting to asking questions on the forum. I recently found the information on idle speed expressed thus:
"Idle speed 1050 min-1, Engine at regular operating temperature"
OK, as it happens I have an engineering/science background and I understand the min-1 scientific notation as effectively meaning 1/min or per minute, but really this sort of thing has no place in a manual meant for the general population and just goes to show that it not written or edited with any real consideration towards the end user. I mean - what sort of mechanical engineering nerd puts 1050 min-1 in a user manual instead of 1050 rpm! In fact it is technically incorrect as it doesn't say 1050 of what - apples oranges, or engine revolutions, so just pretentious!
