How to remove 1150 tank... help please.

Is there a link to a "how to" theard on this please ? I searched but got millions of hits here. I have removed the plastic cover on the rhs of the tank and can see bolt to be removed but do I need to remove air intake on lhs and if so how ?

Air intake does not need to be removed.

So just one bolt and undo the one petrol quick release thing on the rhs ? Or how many petrol hose clips ?

One bolt at right hand side.

Either disconnect the two high pressure fuel injection hoses from the hard plastic pipes above the right hand throttle body or release the quick releases if you have them fitted (if you don't have QD's, you'll need to clamp the rubber fuel lines as the fuel system is pressurised). If you have an adventure there may be a balance pipe between the left and right hand lower tank lobes - disconnect this too.

Disconnect the two small diameter breather hoses at the plastic push together fittings above the brake pedal.

Disconnect the large electrical connector which comes from the fuel pump access plate (underneath the tank behind the plastic side panel which you've removed).

Slightly lift the tank, locate and disconnect the brown earth wire which leads to the fuel pump access plate.

Lift and withdraw the tank backwards - it'll be surprisingly heavy if there's an appreciable amount of fuel in it - have somewhere ready to set it down.

Caveat: This is how I remove the tank on my 1100 - I believe the 1150 is the same

This could well be an 1100 only thing (or possible even just a plastic tanked 1100 thing)

Thank you for the help. I removed the tank (a first for me) looked at the battery & said billox the connectors are wrong. My mate works for a wholesaler and got me the battery very cheap. But BMW connectors are different. So now I'll sell the new battery and get a bmw one

What are the connectors like?
It's possible to buy / make adapters for battery connections (squashed flat 15mm copper pipe being my favourite raw material).

are they flat connectors? I had then when I bought an odessey battery but just rang and got the right angle brackets.

Give me a shout if you are stuck with anything Luke. I've had the tank off my bike more times than I can remember.....

If its an oddyssey you can get adaptors easily enough

Getting the tank off is OK, putting it back is the hard part (at least if its and adv) - the hose that runs under the tank is almost, but not quite, long enough.

If you've got quick release hoses beware of catching the o-rings and damaging them.

Depends how much fuel is in the tank, especially if its an ADV.

In 13 years the tank on my two GS's has had to come off 3 times, the first two on the first bike.. dealer serviced so the tank came off to replace the fuel filter. I was specifically asked to run the tank as low as possible before the service.

This bike.. just the once. to replace the tank completely and the filter was replaced at the same time.. though that wasn't really necessary. But made perfect sense.

I don't anticipate it needing to be moved again for another 2 years.. when the current filter is due for renewal.

It's never had to come off simply to change the battery.. which is a 10 minute job. No struggle. no hassle. no problem.
