Well Andres you got me thinking and had a test ride on a 690SMC this morning it being some years since I sold my 690SMR (Beakster).



Very nice too and fuel injection much better than the earlier models

Judd Racing also happen to have a 21 plate 701 Enduro sat in the show room they are selling for a customer

Ha, you got me going for a moment there I'll bet the KTM was a hoot to ride though and they look so sexy! And congrats on the new 1290

............
So, today's task is to see if I can get the engine management light to go out, no fault codes displayed on the dash and get the TC and ABS to work again..............

Looks like on on my own with it being a 2021 model with it's new dash and tweaks to the electronics. As far as I can ascertain previous years just need the speedo recalibrating, TC and ABS aren't affected so I'll be using the procedure from previous years to recalibrate the speedo, hope that it works sorts the TC and ABS. Of course, there's always the chance they aren't related. We'll see....................

Well, that went well........ Having worked out the circumference of the wheel and disconnected the dash from the EMS and power I proceeded to press lots of combinations of buttons. Unlike on previous MYs the new dash does not seem to allow you to programme the wheel size. I suspect there must be a digital 'switch' in the EMS as surely they must use the same unit for the Enduro and SM Back to the drawing board and some more digging...............it obvs doesn't stop me from riding the bike but it is annoying none the less.

Stand the bike upright with the valve at the bottom, put a chalk mark on the floor, wheel the bike forward one full revolution and put another chalk mark on the floor then measure between them. It’s much easier than using masking tape and string

It’s not easier

I must have done that half a dozen times and got a different figure every time. The string was cock on (did it twice just to be certain)

I need a pair of custom ABS tone rings that will fool the EMS into thinking it's running 21/18 wheels Now to find somebody that can make me a pair.............

Edit: In addition to this one, not instead of. Wouldn't that save you faffing around with lights on dashboards, bits of string & sprockety things?

My FE350 is a great trail bike and good at making up for my lack of skill in the tricky bits, but a 701 for country lanes, easier tracks and going further (without involving a trailer) would be the perfect compliment

Then all you need is an RKS for longer road trips and cruising around on and you have the perfect stable of awesome steeds!

Postie came yesterday with a 1" shorter side stand so hopefully I can grab some time to fit that.

Phone calls; I've also found a UK based guy that makes custom tone rings for 1*90 KTMs so currently seeing if he can be persuaded to look at 701/690's. I won't tempt fate but it's looking hopeful.................
