Have you ever noticed a throbbing feel from the chain at certain speeds. I thought it was a bit of a tight spot and ignored it. Over the last two weeks I have noticed on four GS800s a polish to some of the chain rivets.
This can only by rubbing on the front sprocket cover, This is easily removed and I would advise cleaning it every few months, and excess lube builds up in here and can trap small stones etc.
Scuffing can be seen on the guard close to the frame fixing point.
By inserting a small washer at the frame fixing point more running clearance is created.
With this in place the chain drive is much smoother, check yours now, its such an easy fix.
