Have you ever noticed a throbbing feel from the chain at certain speeds. I thought it was a bit of a tight spot and ignored it. Over the last two weeks I have noticed on four GS800s a polish to some of the chain rivets.

This can only by rubbing on the front sprocket cover, This is easily removed and I would advise cleaning it every few months, and excess lube builds up in here and can trap small stones etc.

Scuffing can be seen on the guard close to the frame fixing point.

By inserting a small washer at the frame fixing point more running clearance is created.

With this in place the chain drive is much smoother, check yours now, its such an easy fix.

:clap thanks for the heads up :clap

I noticed it on my bike about a week ago, not a problem yet with the drive more a build up which bugged me.

My 2010 bike has a washer fitted as standard so maybe they added this at the factory on later bikes as it was a bit close, also since fitting the scottoiler I have noticed that the build up of old chain lube and crud is slowly softening up and dripping onto the exhaust which gives some loverly wafts of smoke as you leave the bike. I took of the guard at the weekend and gave it a good clean as it had the same amount of crud in it as yours so hopefully this stops the problem.
