HP2 Sport

Hola!

Congratulations about the bike.

I had accident with mine. I was driving in tunnel at Marbella, when i did notice a lot of liquid on road and slowed down. Then a car hit at the rear of my bike. Usually you could not see your own accidents from video, but here is mine:

Luckily none of those cars rolled over me...

The bike is damaged only from the right side and will be fixed. I don't know how long it will take with those carbon parts nowadays.

what tyres are you using for your hp2 ?

Mine came with the Metzeler K3s as standard. These tyres are not suitable if it is wet unless you keep the bike upright at all times as there is no tread on the edges. Pidcocks swapped them at no charge for Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs. I've now done 800 miles on the HP2 and can tell you that the PPs are an excellent all round tyre. I had told the dealer either the PPs or the Metzeler Sportec M3s, which is another good tyre.

oh shit

hi eka
oh mate you are so lucky ,no injuries ,to ride a is a very dangerous thing and to be in control all the time .and then you get some clown go up the back of your bike:blast .you poor guy .i just hope you are claiming off the idiot for just about everything you can think of . hope you get the bike sorted quick.
parts for the hp2 won't be cheap eh . best wishes pb:beerjug:

tyres

hi zzrman
thanks for the post ,my aprilia came with corsa's on . again race compound no tread on the edges , were fine on dry days ,worried in the wet .fairly upright if caught in the rain .glad to see the back of them ,next set soft compound diablo's , 1500 mile and the rear tyre was shot ,to hell with the race compounds . so been using road touring tyres ,no problem at all ,lot harder but warm quick. 4500 out a back tyre too , ye haa . gs i get 6000+.the tyres i have been using for the last few years are conti sport attacks on a r1200 s , aprilia touno conti road attacks for going across france ,great tyre ,so now on the r1200s ,conti road attacks as well . traded both now for the hp2 . don't think the k3 's will last long , worse thing is when you take the wheel in ,it might come back with a few more marks in it .
thanks pb:beerjug:

Hi Eka - Just read the post. I am so sorry to hear about your prang. So glad to know that you are all OK and hopefully will soon be back on the road, please give me a ring if I can help at all. I use the tunnel every weekend; that water is there from the first rains until early summer. Many of us have complained to Marbella town hall but they say there is nothing they can do as the road has no drainage facility (as per all Spanish roads!) Unless it's pouring down, the right carriageway is dry. Hope to ride with you soon....

hi eka

I have done 11,000 miles now on my bike mainly on the A397 to Ronda or similar roads: Here are what tyres I have used.
OE were 2CT's which I changed at 3,875 miles for Mezeler Sportec M3's. (About 1,000 of those miles was running in & driving down here) These I changed at 6,750 miles for Pirelli Corsa 111's. At 9,250 miles I tried Bridgestone BT016's and the front is shot on the sides after only 11,000 miles - rear still has 500+ miles on it.
So now I am going to replace these with the 2CT's again. I think they suit the bike best, mileage wise. The M'3s were great but there is no 55 profile available (only on Racetec's) and you can feel the difference.
I would like to try Dunlop qualifiers which I have on a Buell, but I am fed up with taking the wheels in & out!:Motomartin

I agree...

I've been happy with the 2CT's on mine aswell, BUT...

Now I'm going to change to Power ONE, Michelin's new tire. It seem to offer exacltly what I need.
It has similar compound as the 2CT and comes as a "street" even though it looks as a "race tire".

According to the "Tire guys" at the Swedish "Two Wheels" Mc-show, they would still recomend as follows, for HP2S users.

Street/touring/some track: Pilot power 2CT
Street/track: Power ONE "Street"
Street to track/track: Power One (preferrable softness)

I'm going for the Power ONE "street".

So sorry to hear about the crash mate. But you looked ok in the video after.
Hey, You must be first person to crash there HP2S on the street. :blast:eek::mad:

Hope you get the bike back on the road again soon. (any pics of the damage).

Yes, i took some pictures.

Damages are only right side. I took a picture from tunnel next day. The bmw service was only about kilometer after that tunnel and they told also, that there is that water all the time:

This is taken in morning. At evening there is very bright light from the end of tunnel. When i saw that water and did slow down, the car behind me propably get blinded from light and didn't saw me slowing on time.

Left side of my rear tyre was this kind of marks. I think those come from hit, because all the other marks are at right side:

It looks like slided nicely. Left side looked like this:

black knicker woes

didn't notice the bike at first glance ,the model has her knickers caught in the seat and her shoe wedged in the rear set . :beerjug:

Damage woes

For the first time ever, I have bought 'Residual value' insurance for my HP2 Sport.

Given the bike's value and the delays / expense over sourcing parts, I don't think it would take much to write one off, leaving me with the difference between its high purchase price and a (very probably) lower value after a year or two to fund.

On a much happier note: The Kriega 'tank bag' - It's the 10 litre bag, attached to a carrier http://www.kriega.com/pages_uk/tank/tank-frameset.html does work well.

OK, the HP2 Sports is an out-and-ot sports bike - and a bloody good one, for sure - but it's useful to have somewhere to put a spare visor, phone, wallet etc. on a day out. The 20 litre bag fits OK, too. That would do for a weekend away.

The bike will be repaired, but who knows how long it would take with those carbon parts as it come few months late, because they had problems to get those carbon parts then. It looks like mostly cosmetic damages. Final drive will be changed. I don't know what they found from right cylinder head. They called me last week, that all the parts are ordered.

I have also Megamoto, which i'm driving now here in Finland. Here is some dirty pictures from it taken with phone:

There is quite dry roads now. In snow or ice those pilot powers are just unbelievable slippery.

slippery

hi eka
the supermotos are awesome pieces of kit , i tried to buy one a few months old and was sold the morning i rang , so i bought a gs 1200 instead ,now with no screen ,looks great a small screen to come soon, wunderlich flowjet . risky business riding around with a 1200 in the ice and snow .. ask for the bodywork they take off and repair ..... . .good pics again taken of the mega moto . :)
pb:beerjug:

Yep, i will take the screen and propably hand quards off, when i get bike to Spain. While touring those are nice. There is not heated grips either as in other bmw's than hp2 those are standard equipments here. But at hot weather and in Spanish mountain curves it's better without screen.

Pictures are phone quality and are taken with my Nokia E71, which was damaged at accident. I just love it. Now battery charging plug broke. It was already damaged at accident. I just bought new phone today ... E71 again. :D

Hey Eka

That’s a lot of cosmetic damage to the bike:(. I hope it will be repaired and your insurer doesn’t write it off. As it will be a long wait for a new one. Good luck with that.:comfort

It also looks like you’ll also be needing new riding gear too:blast

Are pictures of naked blokes allowed on this site:ymca:eek::augie

:hide

Good photos Eka. Imberger now make the carbon so you shouldn't have to wait too long. I have had a new tank panel under warantee and they said it took 3 wks to arrive.
Good luck with all - look forward to seeing you out here - rgds Tony:Motomartin
