hp2 sport

Hi - Just turned 12,000 miles - luv mine to bits. Now that the exhaust escape valve is disconnected, it does seem to have more mid range and oh boy does it popback & sound better:thumb
I've experimented with different tyres and the best seem to be the 2ct's, well for me anyway. Does make the steering feel lighter than with softer rubber and they aren't wearing badly after 1,000 miles of hard mountain use!
I seem to be getting a lot of patter from the front coming out of bends if anyone can help?? I am using stock settings but with the rear spring backed off half a turn. (I weigh fully kitted 75 kilos):Motomartin

Hi well guess everyones been making the best of the weather, hey this could be our summer!. Only done just over 1K in its first month, had alot of stuff planned with mates in the M\C club, took the HP2 a couple of times but at moment I enjoy it more on my own, found group riding a bit restrictive, so stuck with the Bandit for that.

Compared with the 12S it just wants to gggo!, done a 300 mile day, seat is as comfy as the S, as expected knees and wrists take a bit more strain, but no ill effects.

In process of tuning the suspension, now "we" are run in and the pace upped I can get kicked out of the seat on bumpy roads with standard settings (I weigh 75kilos). Hope it doesn't use as much oil as my other 12's, all that was available was the TWS at £14 a litre!. Needed to fit a Zumo for a trip to France, but it was easy and is neat enough, now just need to decide how light I can travel.

hi all
not really got to ride mine much ,RAIN. gs gets used though ..
chispitas the 2cts are a great tyre ,what sort of mileage to you get from a rear ??.. if the front is pattering ,you must be giving it some stick .. lucky to have nice roads ..

phoenix the oil TWS ,what sort of oil is this ,mineral or semi synt or full synt.
when i travel away ,i take the bare minimum of gear , lightweight travel clothes and a small leak proof bottle of travel wash to wash gear, if fact done a week trip with a small rucksack 20ltrs with room still left in it ,bum bag and dry bag with cam strap ,just in case i buy anything . most of the time on the bike so only need the bike gear ,change of clothes for eve. have even before now bought cheap tee shirts worn them once and then thrown away at the end of day. came back with almost empty bag. nothing worse than looking like a camel with all that gear ....and its the weight on your back as well .:)

hi everyone :)
all gone quiet on the hp2 sport scene.:augie how is everyone getting on with them??
PB:beerjug:

I haven’t had chance to ride mine much:(…to busy at work (I use the GSA for my daily hack). I’m hoping to get out on the HP2S this weekend though, if the weathers conducive, as i've had my belly pan fixed and its back on the bike.

Hey Phoenix
Was that you I saw going onto the M32 and heading to Wales last Sunday morning:confused:
There was a gixxer, a ZX12R, some other bikes and an HP2S:bow. I was stopped at the lights on my GSA (on my way to work:() as they all went past.

Oh yes PP2CT's is also my tyre of choice. :thumb2I just can’t fault them weather its hot, cold, dry or wet. Truly a tyre for all seasons.:bow (haven’t tried them on a race track yet though:ymca)

Please let me know some settings when you have finished as we seem to weigh the same - backing the rear spring has made the bike more comfortable but I wonder if I should back off the front as well, although apart from some front patter sometimes, the bike feels fine on smooth roads:Motomartin
These were a set of BT016 after only 1500 miles - I have never had a front wear so quickly and as the mountain was damp early mornings I had to change them. (no scrub marks are on the 2CT after 1000 miles - shows, I think that the 2ct's are the best all round road tyre.

Hi PBS - I got 3,875 miles out of the original set but at least 1,000 of that was traveling down here in the rain and upright. I wrote something about the tyres on the other thread......
TWS is fully synthetic: BMW put it in their M cars - expensive but you can buy it anywhere and you can mix it with the Castrol Power 1 Racing. You can buy Racing in Halfords BUT the UK only supply 10W40 which is a bit thin....I'm lucky out here and can buy the 10W50 - Make sure your dealer puts the right stuff in, mine put semi- synthetic at the first service!!! (Didn't read the book!!):Motomartin
By the way thanks for your reply about the exhaust valve on the other thread........

tyres

hi all
tonight on the way home in the rain ,i found out about the metzeler racetec
k3s are like in the rain , NOT GOOD . had a small slip with the rear coming out a medium bend quarter throttle not even accelerating ,was not even cranked over almost upright , maybe hit oil etc . took it so slow after that ,bum twitching experience for sure .good tyre when dry and warmed up . for rain and cold , takes a brave person to use them . either that or a basket case they will not be going back on for sure when worn out .

Another 75kg rider hear keen to learn how best to set the bike up. If standard setting are for 85kg rider as per the handbook, what adjustement would you make all thing being equal for a reduction of 10Kg?

By the way awsome bike, best ever!:JB

Hi All as mentioned TWS is 10-60w fully sync oil, dealer spoke to Castrol and story goes: castol power racing 10-50w is not available in uk at moment (don't use 10-40w) the power racing 10-50w lower cost than TWS and should around in next couple of months.

Yonkyo: Probably it was me. went to classic bike racing at Pembrey, gave the HP2 a good run.

Decided to go for an HP2 bagster tank cover and bag (will just fit it for trips) and supplement with light backpack, gonna work on cutting down on the crap I carry!

Tried the suspension settings others settled for in the Pelican Parts Forum, but think I can get it to suit me better as I appear to be lighter. Going to start by setting both front & rear sag for my weight, then the rear rebound/compression , then the front. Will make notes of the settings and post, just need to put some time aside to concentrate on it!

I set the sag when I first had the bike and it didn't need altering although I weighed 10 kilos less:confused:
At the first service here, the mechanic who services the shops racing Bm's, told me to back off the rear spring half a turn - never mind what the books sais - and the difference was noticible. So I hope you find some time soon to experiment.
I tried backing off the compression 2 clicks at each end & couldn't notice any difference I also tried the front rebound both harder and softer (2-4 clicks) and couldn't feel any difference..........As I don't know what I'm doing, I'm not brave enough to try much more.
Do you have a link to the thread in the pelican parts forum, please?:Motomartin

Hi Chiptas here's he link:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=435546&highlight=hp2+suspension&page=2

Look at entries 23 & 24, (after they get in deep!) I ended up with settings near Dr Curves, as on road I prefer softer suspension to feel the surface and dont mind the bike moving around a bit, but I was only playing during a day's ride as really need to start with sag for my weight. Nothin to lose you can always return to stock.

Many thanks Phoenix - I have just had a quick look and at first glance it sounds very complicated. I shall for sure experiment again. I am going to the UK at the end of the month, so will probably have to wait till I get back. keep us informed please on your trials - saludos Tony:Motomartin

settings

hi phoenix
have you now set your bikes up ????.they are extremely hard ,bumps will have me out the seat ,i weigh 81 kg . that power 1 racing oil 10/50. is that fully synt ??. its a little thinner than 10/60 .i have noticed that the bike gets a lot hotter than the gs1200 and the r 1200 s:eek::eek::eek: . it will burn more oil if its thinner :(
pb:)

Hi pb, chispitas - well I did quite a few miles yesterday and made some adjustments

Set the sag first to -33cm front & rear; which for me were Rear = threads above rings 11, Front = threads above ring 14.

From riding I ended up with;
Rear: compression 19 clicks out, rebound 19 clicks out.
Front: compression 19 clicks out rebound 11 clicks out.

The way I was riding with these settings dive\rebound on front was slight, rear had bit of squat, maybe needed more rebound damping

As the compression adjustments are nearly out to max, I am gonna reduce the sag (preload) a bit more, trouble is thats a real pain on the front as the tank cover has to come off.

Hey I am no expert, the suspension guru's would tear my settings to bits!! just trying to get "road" settings right for me (which I like slightly soft, don't mind bike moving around). As my ablility on the bike improves and the suspension gets more miles on it sure i will need to continue fine tuning

Yeah the power 1 oil is fully synth. My clutch is a bit grabby on first couple of pull away's when engine is cold also I have noticed an slight oil weep on one of the fork legs! will see what happens as the miles go on

Thanks Phoenix - at the moment I´m in Madrid & won´t go back to the Costa for a bit. I am going to try and get some info from BMW (they must know the standard setting for us lightweights - thanks Maverick :D)

PBS - Copied from an e-mail sent to me by Castrol:

"I would suggest the Power 1 Racing 10W-50 if you have access to it - I wish we had that here - would be so useful.
Unfortunately we only have the 10W-40 grades ( engines can run noisy on this )
The TWS is a great oil, but being thicker viscosity, the fuel consumption wouldn't be as good - yes, not a problem mixing them if you need to use TWS as a top up" :Motomartin

oil

hi chispitas
thanks , i am sure opie oils in redruth cornwall can get you want you want and post ,they advertise on the net .. i checked their web site ,didn't see tws but if you speak to guy ,i am sure he would get you some ,i have used them several times to get oil for my bikes and they have ordered in oil for me ,they are castrol main dealers as well ... .phone number

forgot, think i would go for the 10/60 ,lot hotter in spain .:thumb

PBS - I think we are crossed up here - I was trying to help you with your oil questions :D
I have been using power 1 racing 10W50 for over 6,000 miles now. there is no 10W60 in "racing" - I posted for u on page 1 of this thread below in red: :comfort But thanks anyway :Motomartin
