Looking at an Irish reg bike which I have found out to be originally from the UK.
It's 5years old and has had a good few owners(4/5 in ireland alone)
Seller has been somewhat reluctant to provide info.

Should a HPI check be done or would the bike be flagged(if it ever was stolen/written off/finance etc) when registering with revenue?

Only ever imported 1 bike into this country and that was 5yrs ago..so somewhat rusty in this area.

Thanks in advance :aidan

personally, I'd forget about the bike. most people when asked will give you information on the bike if one asks......a reluctance to answer questions would make me forget buying the bike. There are plenty more bikes out there.

Walk away

Its a buyers market out there ,plenty of good bikes out there with history... Once I got a knock on the door from a loan recovery guy whose was chasing some unpaid payments on a bike I had bought...The bike had been imported from the UK so Customs certainley dont check on HPI ...Turned out ok in the end as it was accepted that I had bought the bike in good faith and I have heard no more since then ..This was 10 years or so ago so I reckon it was all sorted in the end.

you probably have already - given the previous replies,
but yes Walk Away.
It is a buyers market to put it mildly and this is almost like going looking for trouble.*

*trouble knows where i live - i've no need to go looking for it!
:D

When selling a bike I'm delighted to talk about it and answer any questions a buyer might have. This guy sounds dodgy. I wouldn't even bother with a check.

Why would you walk away , If your getting the right bike at the
right money , then ask for the Frame number /Vin explain what
your doing clearly and why.
If there is a refusal , then walk away , a reluctance is a different thing.
But yes do a HPI check and in Irl , a very handy useful one is a
garda check if you know a Friendly obliging Garda.

Many thanks to all

I've been contemplating getting a second bike for quite some time now...but can't quite make up my mind..and I'm in no real hurry. What I'd really like is a big inline 4 with good torque like my old GSX1100E. My last 6bikes have been twins. Top speed isn't really my thing..although I'd really like to give a K8busa/ZZR1400 a go. Been looking at GSX14's/ZRX12's/CB13's/K12R's but nothing at the 'right price'.Prefer a naked to keep speeds down(hopefully).

Back to the first post..the bike I was interested in was an 05 ZX12R. I spoke to the 3rd owner today..he sold the bike to the 4th owner 3mths ago..and now is up for sale by the 5th owner. It definitely has been down the road doing '5mph' which has bent the handlebars and scrapped the engine casings and endcan. 3rd owner couldnt confirm if there was any damage to the frame.Price in my book is wayyy out...so looks like I'm walking :thumb2

Aye , I really cant fathom this , "Walk " away mentality take EVERY
situation to the natural end , content yourself , its your money .
Every time you find yoruself in new waters , take it to the natuaral end

Oh, and agree with earlier sentiments. Lots of good bikes out there - you'll be living with it (her) for a good while hopefully.
