HPS Tank range

Hi, thinking of getting one of these beasties just to be different from all the 950 SM mates i have.

Couple of questions...

Tank Range. In standard guise ie standard tank size, how far can i expect to get on road wheels and tyres?

Now i know its not a tourer, but how comfortable or not is the saddle? Alternatives etc .

That will do for now. If anyone has any sensible comments to make on the purchase of one, please shout out

depends how you ride have had over 110 on a slow day and below 90 on a not so slow day, saddle is okay but the it's tall wunderlich do alternative which is lower. I swapped shock and springs for wilbers and it makes the bike loads better but that's just my view. However I made the mistake and listened to wilbers guy and the bike is now even taller...

HP2 is brilliant fun not very forgiving in my opinion and so you'll need to be careful

The HP2 is a fab bike. I've had mine two years now and it just keeps on making me smile

Personally if you want an off-road bike i'd buy a smaller capacity lighter bike (I have an EXC-R 530) as the HP2 is OK but not great off-road. It's not the weight so much as the suspension is not up to the weight of the bike when pressing on. However on the road it'll keep up with almost anything and will run rings around a sports bike if it's twisty or the slightest bit bumpy.

Many people have had suspension mods, which I'm just getting round to doing but in all honesty you don't really need it but it will make a good bike better.

Do get a full aftermarket pipe (I have a Remus Hexacone) as it does improve the power delivery across the range.

On the subject of tank range I'd agree with Lo-IQ 90-110 is about right which means the seat is more than comfortable enough to outlast the tank range

Lastly on a very positive note (well for you anyway) the second hand values seem to have dropped so you can great some great deals on HP2's right now. Do enusre you get a full history on the bike as most owners use there's off-road (not necessarily a bad thing) but there are quite a few ex-BMW Off-road school bikes around. my advice would be NOT to buy on of those. Also read the posts on Fork issues and final drive issues, neither of which I have had but you need to know about them.

P.S. just noticed that you're in Guildford. The guys at Vines are great (and honest bunch) and will look after you but I had heard (second hand so take with a pinch of salt) that they have bought in a few ex-off-road school bikes so just ask....

mine is an ex schools bike I had no issues with it at all appart from all the stuff they fixed under warranty benifit of having a schools bike you won't cry when you slide it down the road... cos it'll be scratched to hell anyway

modern day classic in my opinion get one you'll love it....or hate it

OR... if after reading this again, you mean the Megamoto then the same still applies about tank range and comfort - watch out of the front stoppers as the are INCREADIBLE!!!!

However why not buy a bike that is a cheaper (and a great second hand choice), has two sets of wheels (SM and Adv bike in one) and still has enough stopping power to stand it on its nose at 40 mph.

On the other hand if you want the BEST SM (IMHO) bike then buy the KTM

Buy an HP, then learn to ride again if you've come from a GS!!!!

Great fun, tank range; I've had as much as 140 taking it easy from filling it right to the brim! Never less than 100

Seat is great, more comfy than my previous 12adv, seriously!

Mine has a full race system, so it's not the easiest bike to ride around town, but get it out on an open road and it's a different story all together. It 'rocks'!

OK off road but fab as a 'scratcher' Front end launches skyward off the power in 1st and 2nd and has been known to go very 'fluffy' in 3rd too!

I must admit when i first got mine i just didn't get it, i also had a k1200r as well as a couple of track bikes and the hp just seemed weird......now i just love it, in mud mode it's fun in mottard trim it's an absolute hooligan and it makes you learn to ride again.
If it's the MM you are going for .....great bike, me..... i love the original, this bike is a keeper and for me that is very rare

I just fitted a seat from www.renazco.com in black suede ......looks the dogs bolloks, i never had a problem with my stocker though and as said before once it's time to refuel your ass get a rest.

I normally fill the tank around 120-130 miles with around 12 liters and been monitoring it over a couple of months. It is a fantastic bike but will certainly bring you back to the basics of riding and how to break without the help of ABS and servo thingamidanglies.

I don't regret buying mine one minute
