Hey up John this is a mail I sent to a few mate yesterday
I thought I had copied you in
Apologies and here is a advert for your grand spot in Austria
GPS info
hey up
Well eventually ( and thanks to guidance from John the lovely helpful bloke who runs a great hotel in Austria and is known on here as The Grey One see
http://www.hochalmspitze.com/ )
I have downloaded and used on my 2610
a set of maps that are up to date and seem to work fine - been around scotland from derbyshire and never lost a road
I have managed to download a mapset the size of 1595mb - which can be measured as UK Iceland sweden and norway denmark and the french belgium coastal roads - OR UK SPAIN and PORTUGAL N Marrok and west France
As you casn see there is an amount of maps there enough for a few weeks
Heres what I did
Dont blame me if it goes tits up = it works for me
Here is the link http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ you will need to download the openstreetmap maps. Use Firefox as IE does not work with this site. ( Worked on my Window 7 running Google Chrome) - They will load onto your computer in mapsource. you will then find them by clicking on the drop down box in the top right corner of the mapsource screen. They will be called OSM World Routable. You can then select which ones to download to your Garmin for the trip.
Once on the website for the maps you have to tick a small box near the top for "enable manual tile selection" then zoom in on the map and pick the map tiles you need. As you click on them a list will build on the left of the page. When you have all you need you put in your Email address and click on the " build my map" box. You will get an Email shortly afterwards to tell you how long you have to wait, followed by another that tells you your maps are ready and that you have 48 hours to collect them. Click on the link at the bottom of this second Email and then select "osm routable mapsource .exe" the maps will download for you (click the "run "option) If you have problems I can talk you through it on the phone -just send me a text
Just to add my bit two pennath = Click the Mapnik selection in the TPY file box = it give better detail then click and go - Also becaus I have a shite speed internet connection I used my neighbours - with her permission to load my laptop with the maps then copied the download onto a USB flashstick then loaded onto my wired up computer - that works toooooooo
It is extremely easy and got my 2008 Mapsorse 2610 up to date with new mapping - the old stuff can be selected as it all loads into yer mapsorse software in yer top LH corner select OSM insead of Mapsorse
See how it works in Spain in a few weeks - as said in another post not all roads are on - so maybe best to draw a route out on puter the load to GPS after checking its going along the roads you really want - HTH
