By the way has anyone taken off the rear mudguard 'thing' and whats it for anyway?

Took it off the last bike but am waiting to get a hugger before I remove it - being a lazy bugger I don't want to make work for myself The 'crap catcher' is, apparently, a requirement in the Fatherland to stop you spraying muck onto the cage behind you but all it really does is cover your left boot / leg in cr@p Its an ugly piece of tat & I can't wait to be rid of it

but certainly didn't want same colour as yours as I always have to remind you to use your bike not mine...

I like the GS though because it is an awesome road/touring bike. The styling I also like because it seems 'quirky' and a tad eccentric with an undeniable off road flavour.

I sometimes joke with friends though that if I ever end up 'off road', it will be because I have seriously mis- calculated a corner somewhere

I reckon off road means a 100 kg 250 or the likes, certainly not a 250kg behemoth

But hey that is just my opinion and I know there are many folks who greatly enjoy taking them off road and I think that is great

got one of those splash guards from best rest products in the states and they work a treat and only cost about 100 euros .try there site for lots of gs stuff.

Why the decision to go with the alloy wheels? I must stress it's not a criticism, I too have a 12GSA that will probably never go off road propper..........................And it's got vario panniers on it!

I had a problem with the front rim which from new caused a vibration through the steering above 65mph eventually numbing my right hand after longer rides especially at motorway speeds in Europe.

I got a replacement front rim from BMW and it was the same. Once I fitted the cast wheels at my own expense the vibration was instantly gone and she was smooth at all speeds.

Thats it really.

A lot depends on type of journey/roads etc but in Europe you can comfortably knock out about 350 riding sensibly more if you want to.

At home I seldom fill it to the neck as few people riding with me have the same range. Plus you are usually looking for a stop of some sort before a fuel stop anyway IYKWIM

On long European trips it is possible to cover big distances between fills if you want to, especially if you are riding alone.
