Hi folks, my name is Eddie,I'm new to ukgser and I'm the proud owner of a brand new 08 GS Adventure with ESA. I've put 400 miles on it on the first weekend of ownership and am now considering what it needs to enhance what is already an extraordinary machine. It seems to me the bike is screaming out for a decent hugger. Can't believe they allow it to leave the factory with the rear wheel as exposed as it is. I'd be interested to hear any recommendations forum users might have. I'm not too bothered about the cost so long as it's a good quality hugger and function is more important than form.

Can't believe they allow it to leave the factory with the rear wheel as exposed as it is.

I am guessing that the reason for no hugger is the fact that it is designed with some off road use in mind. The first bit of crud on your tyre will rip a hugger apart, hence a mud scraper on the back wheel and no hugger.

There's a few posts on here on that subject s oa search may provide some answers. Nippy Normans have some good mudslingers. Preferable to huggers IMHO as they seem to keep the crud of your legs better.

Oh, welcome by the way and enjoy the bike, top choice :thumb2

GSA Hugger

I've got a tarts hugger (that's the carbon one!) from nippy normans. They seem a bit pricey, but when you see how there made you can see why ! I've done nearly 4k miles since I fitted it with no problems at all. However, I haven't ridden off raod with it.

Thanks for your replys guys.

I have searched for threads on this subject and am now divided between a Mudslinger and a hugger or should I fit both?

Huggers don't appear to envelope the rear wheel enough and the Mudslingers look as if there would still be substantial spray.

I started off with a carbon Inberger hugger on my 1200 and eventually took it off as it always clattered about noisily going over bumps on the road.
Once I started going off road ( forest tracks are the limit of my ability..)I decided it would only be a matter of time before it broke off.

On my GSA , I've got a Machine Art Mudsling from Nippy Norman which is a much better solution for me...keeps all the 5hite off your legs and the battery and is almost invisible when fitted.

Top bit of kit.

Machine Art mudsling from Nippy Normans. Its more in tune with the bike looks rather than a standard hugger.

Another vote for the mudsling. Its not bling like some huggers, but its more in keeping with the off-road looks. There's even a square section that I assume is there to fit in the ESA if you have one.

:thumb2 for the Mudsling - plus they only take five minues to fit. Even if you're cack handed to$$er like me...
